https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2018/08/17/judge-in-paul-manafort-trial-said-hes-been-threatened.html Judge T.S. Ellis, the man presiding over the criminal trial of ex-Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort, said Friday that he has received threats about the case and now travels with protection from U.S. marshals. So like uh, considering everything we know right now (Trump's mob connections, Russia collusion, psychotic cult following), I wonder who's threatening him?
Whoever did this they're authoritarian scum.
They picked the wrong judge if they thought they could intimidate him. Judge Ellis personally admitted that he's a rowdy fucker who isn't afraid to confront lawyers in his court for literally anything he doesn't like. I doubt there's a smoking gun proving Paulie Manaff was behind this or was even aware of it, but it does not make him look any better. Going to be interesting to see if the judge allows the jury to find out before giving their verdict.
There is something seriously wrong when there's not one but three groups that could be threatening to assassinate a judge on behalf of the president of the US. This is not normal.
Repeat after me WITCH HUNT
I wonder who it was this time. Hardcore Trump supporters? Russians? The mob?
It's definately an idiot Trump supporter, the Russian and the mob are smarter than this. They wouldn't try to assassinate a high profile judge during a high profile case and if they did, they wouldn't tell everyone first.
If it was an idiot supporter surely they wouldn't go to the lengths to put people under protection? This would have to be someone with some power in order to warrant that response
The fact that someone sent him death threats shows how scared they are.
I want to know why the fuck media outlets want him to release the names of the jury? why would they put those people in danger by publishing their names?
I'll never understand why people make threats like these. Just seems counterproductive if your intent is too murder someone.
They still have to take the threat as credible. An idiot supporter can still show up at his house with a handgun and a crowbar.
Because a good portion of our “journalists” are worse than vultures.
There's been a lot of drama about this judge being a bit of a scumbag harassing the prosecution. I wouldn't rule out that even a democrat would threaten this judge.
Apparently this guy has a history of being extremely harsh and strict towards the side he favors so that it's far more difficult to appeal his rulings.
But not everyone would necessarily know or believe that. Until there's more information you can't really make any claims as to which side is behind it. You can only worry that it might affect his judgment.
The notion that the jury would remain entirely anonymous is ordinarily considered an unnecessary obstacle to transparency and accountability in the judicial system. It would not do for juries to always be secret, because then it'd be easy to assemble a biased jury and no one could know that you picked 12 white supremacists to jury a black man's trial and told them to keep their prejudices out of sight while in open court. Ordinarily, media wouldn't care about the identities of the jury, and their identities being published in official court documentation is of little concern in most trials concerning nobody civilians. But in a high-stakes high-visibility trial like this, the jury are that much more prominent. Jurors in really big media-circus trials have even gone on to pitch book deals about the "inside story" about what happened in such and such case. I mean there are reasons other than journalists doxxing the jurors for clickbait. That much edge needs to be turned in to the bailiff at the door before entering.
It's definitely not the Russians - they'd either blackmail or assassinate, no use for threats. The mafia, maybe - threats are definitely in their bag of tricks, and generally lower risk and lower effort. But I don't really see the mob as being threatened by this - Trump was probably just a money launderer, and not a very good one at that, which is why he moved to laundering cash for Russian oligarchs instead, they don't care so much about efficiency. So yeah, almost certain it's just a radicalized Trumpite. Whether he ever actually intended to follow through on the threat is another question - on the one hand, they do have a history of political violence, and it's not hard to get hold of some guns and explosives. But on the other hand, it's a lot easier to make a threat than to follow through on it, and Trumpites are nothing if not underachievers.
