Hey I've relatively new to mapping and recently come across this odd lighting problem in my map and I can't find a fix anywhere for it. I've emailed TopHATTwaffle and he hasn't given me any working tips yet so hopefully one of you guys can help me figure this out. I've been stuck on this issue for over a week now.

buildings are completely sealed with no windows, I've changed the materials of the building and the thickness of the walls. with no difference to this env_light breaking into these buildings
Are you compiling with -final?
I know that building! Is this a new rp_downtown variant?
yup, ive tried taking env_lights from other maps but no change.
Are some of those walls func_detail? Light can leak through where they meet other brushes.
The walls are tied to the world :/
Try decreasing lightmap resolution on the faces
No Luck Thank-you for your suggestion though!
Can you put the vmf here ? I'd like to have a look
Are there any translucent textures on the brushes?
If a brush has a translucent, alphatest, etc texture on it, the entire brush will not block light.
Here is the .vmf: https://mega.nz/#!D44njKrQ!RUJMczxRVK6jv1SoHHLAwAQ6imcSAKewojNH5reTCKQ
no, but you are free to check out the .vmf above if you want to take a deeper look
Works for me.
how are you compiling it? and what hammer are you using?
Sdk13 hammer. I did fast vis cause it's slow and full rad (proppoly proplighting and tshadows). A lil odd was the sky_camera glitching in hammer. The white skybox seems pretty useless and not working anyway.
Alright Ill give this a shot, Thank-you lots
Hi, seems i found a problem: I'm not sure but that problem caused by skybox, which snaps exactly to building. ( I'm using built-in Garrys Mod hammer )
Here I made a "hat" to avoid snapping.

Now i think that everything is ok.

Works for you ?
rp_downtown_coolrp.vmf
I downloaded sdk13 and configured it and all(even did a clean re-install of gmod) that but the issue seems to persist
you must have some vital hammer settings that i'm missing out on
I messed around a bit with the skybox for that building and all & it seems to all be the same.
I'm starting to think its something wrong with my hammer editor.
And one more thing: I'm not recommend to use 2013 SDK fo Gmod

@Shroogle I have no magic settings here. Just what i posted. I baked hdr and a bounce 5 tho, if that should matter. Lowering bounces could be a thing, since it limits the size of the transfer lists in case it's a bug in the compiler that maybe corrupts the calculations. it's theoretically possibe, but i dunno if and how this could be fixed. So you should not think about that.
After testing around with lots of stuff, I've come to the realization that my gmod might be the problem.
I've downloaded the original .vmf files for the map and still got the light issues
I've downloaded the .vmf files that worked for you guys and still got these odd lighting issues.
I will let you know how things are after I Do a complete wipe of my gmod
That's it.
I've been ripping my hair out over this for a nearly a month now.
nothing works.
This is literally the only thing I need to do before I can finish and publish my map.
it works for other people but not me, and I don't have a clue why.
I COMPLETELY Wiped gmod from my computer and did a full reinstall with no addons
I unmounted EVERYTHING except CSS.
For what its worth I'll give you all my credits on this site If you can find a fix for this
I am INCREDIBLY desperate for this to be done and over with.
I wan't to learn how to fix this; NOT have it done for me
What happens if you compile using css instead of gmod?
omg, how could it of been that easy? I feel like this should be a well know alternative to compiling maps (or at least maps with these particular problems)

I don't have 10 coins :c
