Things like this is why immigration is a positive thing
Goes to show how good soundwork can really change a video, there's really not a lot of substance or dialogue yet its like the atmosphere fills the rest in.
What he says at 2:14 kinda made me choke up a bit. Life's not that bad now. Stores have everything you need. The only downside is that I don't have much money. We manage. All's good as long as there's no war. I guess when we get down to it most people on earth are the same.
What a lovely video.
"Damn my poor, miserable country" Oof
There is one thing that was not added to subtitles. He said "I'm really scared of this country" before that. I don't think he meant that he scared of US as an enemy but he was scared of the gap in quality of life.
If I'm as humble and open-minded as this man by the time I reach his age, I'll be very happy with myself. The reaction he had during that convo with one of his neighbours where she called all the Russians living in the US traitors is a fantastic reminder that you shouldn't hate one's nation and it's people, regardless of political on-goings.

That was fucking beautiful.
Man, That last shot was a perfect way to end this.
Things like this is why vacations to foreign countries are a positive thing. Just because it's nice on vacation, doesn't mean you should pack up and move there. The USA especially.
As bad as it's in the USA it's still better than Russia. There's a reason why they showed him mingling with the Russian immigrants in New York.
USA, the land of picking the lesser of two evils? Ofcourse I understand the insight the man got from travelling to a country which has been defamed by family members and his government for his entire life. Great and touching that he goes on a trip to New York! My problem was with the first post immediately jumping to an imo wrong conclusion that this is a showcase why immigration (moving indefinitely to another country) is a positive thing.
I've met people from different countries all over the world and based on these interactions I strongly agree with this. All over the world, there are the same people with the same concerns and interests. Most of them are good people who want happiness for themselves and for others. Even talking to people over the internet you can get this sense, most of the time you have no idea what country some anonymous poster is even from and yet they don't seem that different to someone from your own country. However, it also seems that universally our leaders are often the greatest culprits when it comes to the ailments of the world. Russians and Americans wouldn't ever have hated each other, or been on opposing sides of a Cold War, if it hadn't been for the leaders of both nations deciding to make it so. And it's the same with most wars and conflicts.
