Twitch Prime members will lose ad
They're moving ad-free viewing back into the previous Twitch Turbo subscription, effectively doubling the cost to get all the features that was previously provided.
Welp... I didn't want to use adblock but fuck it, guess I am now.
Good job , Twitch.
Nice timing for steam to debut their streaming site.
adblockers don't work on the stream-interrupting video ads
laughs in livestreamer
In traditional valve fashion, it will be released with no warning - just like that accidental launch last week - and then abandoned after a year or two of development, as employees role their desks back to the profitable sectors in time to secure a fat bonus.
What the fuck. On their blog they are acting like this helps creators...
If they were telling the truth before, Ad Impressions were giving to them from prime members.
Fucking hell, rather have them get if of the free games and shitty loot boxes I don't even care about.
Who's bright idea at Amazon was this?
Got an email about this earlier, I still don't understand the decision. Surely Twitch and the creators you're watching get way more income through Prime than the ad revenue they'd get otherwise, so why pull a move like this? Did they get pressured into it by Coke or something?
I am so sure Amazon is hurting for money.
seriously if I didn’t get it for free with prime I see zero reason to pay for twitch
With this and the Amazon pre-order bonus change, I'm guessing something is happening behind the scenes.
I don't understand why Twitch Prime even exists at this point. 2-day shipping and Amazon music aren't worth the asking price.
You guys are nuts if you think this is worth cancelling a Prime membership over (2 day shipping alone has saved me hundreds) but this sure as hell makes Twitch a lot less competitive next to Steam.TV and YouTube Gaming.
Twitch's key advantage, besides being live, is its popularity among young men who tend to be resistant to ads.
Hm yeah I'm sure continuing to hound the one demographic that's been successfully avoiding your ads so far is going to get them to watch your ads.
I don't give a shit about Dota but the stream quality is pretty damn smooth.
2 day shipping is not worth 120 a year (they wont renew my student pricing anymore) when 99% of the stuff I order is stuff that I don't need right away and I can easily bundle for the discount shipping, or it's stuff not fullfilled by amazon for which there is no benefit to prime.
"Our advantage is people running away from ads, so we're going to employ more ads."
What the fuck is this dumb shit.
kind of coincidental that amazon is now offering twitch prime with amazon prime
The point is more so that I don't need 2 day shipping in most cases. Prime makes it worthwhile only because there's other stuff bundled in.
Twitch is a scumbag company. It's really a shame that they're the top dogs - hell even youtube doesn't really compete at the moment. The people who run it are complete morons.
Hopefully Steam.tv can give them a run for their money.
Not to mention that a LOT of items you would buy regularly for your home are now moved to prime pantry, which is a subscription NOT included with prime, so there's no free 2 day shipping with those anymore now.
With the shit Twitch has been pulling recently, if there was ever a time for another streaming service to take off it's now. Plus Steam has the financial backing to pull it off

The fact everything you order isn't same day is fascinating.
Isn't size irrelevant? Shouldn't it be that population density is the more valuable statistic?
I like to just leave twitch on my TV if i'm doing stuff around the house but i that's gonna change depending on how many ads there are. It'd be blocked fine if i'm on a computer with ad block i'm sure but it just won't be something i just leave on now.
Where I live all the most popular prime items are delivered within 3 hours
stuff still has to travel. Amazon (or any retailer) can't afford to have a distribution center in every city (yet...) so they pick strategic places to stick their centers and then they have to work around the postal system as well who has distribution centers that then ship those to local post offices.
the fact that our postal service works at all when you look at the distances things have to travel is a miracle. I can ship a letter from florida to alaska in less then a week.
There is also the fact that they don't keep everything they sell in every distribution center. So when I decide I want a new pair of boots, the closest distribution center may not have them. In fact a lot of the stuff I order seems to come from out of the New York area. Which is more than a quick car ride away.
