As he carried his flag, two people dressed in black and covering their faces approached Welch and demanded he turn it over to them, calling it "a fascist symbol," he said.
what the fuck
just a friendly reminder that antifa is not an organization in any sense of the word and literally anybody can "be" antifa so there are no endorsements or disavowments of any individual's actions because there's no group for said individual to represent
the media and its viewers don't care about this, regardless of how true it is
I hope the assaulters get an actual punishment, unlike the Bike Lock attacker just getting probation for 5 felony assault charges.
it's one dumb person, not really representative of anything
You could apply this standard similarly to Patriot Prayer or other Right-Wing groups that use social media to gather people.
Pretty much any group nowadays without a organized membership system.
Too late, it's already Fox News fodder and will further entrench right-wingers in their beliefs and hatred of us as a whole once they learn about it. Nothing can rectify this at this point, so don't bother.
Next.
Some on the far left equate fascism with capitalism and imperialism, the US being the main offender. It's their version of rightwingers equating fascism with socialism.
What pricks
That's a convenient way to avoid responsibility.
antifa are scum, "anti fascists" my ass
I realize this isn't representative of all antifa protesters but it's hard to keep that in mind sometimes.
Honestly if you don't want to be associated with these people, not dressing like a brownshirt would probably help.
well i mean they literally don't exist as one solid group, i'm not sure what group you expect to be held responsible
It's also a convenient way of staying under the radar, which is a problem the DHS and FBI have run into when it came to trying to track Antifa's activities. You can have hundreds of these black clad rioters show up somewhere and start shit, and then they're gone and you have nobody to pin the blame on.
it's hard to track the activities of a group that doesn't exist
Right, all these people are literally just ghosts, nobody actually shows up to pick fights with everyone, it's just a mass haunting.
one minute we were talking about antifa whuch is a group/idea, now we're talking about people? which are we talking about?
No, it's just that antifa doesn't exist as a group, there is no singular antifa group, these stories are almost always about different groups of people who call themselves antifa
The ghost thing was a metaphor, Antifa as a group exists, but their membership does not formally exist. Some people might show up to a riot for some fun, others might be regulars who are actually devoted to the cause. It's like Anonymous, or BLM, or any number of similar online movements.
I mean, yeah. Nobody is saying that it's a good thing. People should think twice about joining antifa lest they be lumped-in with the worst elements.
Yep! Funny how I think people who identify as antifa are scum!
Just like any group they should practice policing each other internally.
Problem is Antifa actually does justify the use of violence against the "Fascist."
So really none of this is surprising, but I am surprised that people are trying to minimize the Antifa group that confronted this guy. The other greater number of Antifa around them shouldn't just get a bystander pass every time news like this comes out.
Who exactly is going to police who?
That's not what anyone here is saying.
Relevent username?
Get your eyes checked.
Well they aren't under the radar. There was a bill proposed in the US literally including antifa in the name.
I imagine the FBI are working pretty hard to keep an eye on (and probably infiltrate) the black bloc groups.
But attacking strawmen is so much easier
And this is exactly why all the people cheering on antifa violence is problematic. Yes it scares the alt-right off, but it never stops there does it and you end up with people like this who attack everyone who doesn't 100% match up with their ideology.
