Major Hurricane Lane is forecast to close in on Hawaii and threaten lives and property on the islands due to pounding surf, flash flooding, mudslides and strong winds.
There is the possibility of Lane making a direct hit on one or more of the islands late this week and into this weekend. The ultimate severity of impacts will depend on the exact track and strength of Lane.
Hawaii Gov. David Ige has signed an emergency proclamation in advance of the hurricane.
Even in lieu of a direct hit, "Lane has the potential of bringing the state of Hawaii serious and perhaps record damage," according to AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Dan Kottlowski.
Early to tell where it will most impact the island, but Hawaii facepunchers should get their shit together.
Place has been continuasely shat on lately, false WMD alerts, volcanos and now this
Stay safe dudes
Stay safe, fellas.

This is not something to scoff at. Luckily Hawaii has a lot of high ground. Though if this thing makes a direct hit it could be catastrophic to the coast.
How would this affect the eruption? I mean I know it's obviously not going to stop it but could it cause it to switch paths or would the water be tall enough to cool the lava on the land?
I know Pinatubo got hit by a hurricane but that was a different situation.
I imagine a lot of people are scrambling to calculate exactly that.
It recently turned cat 5. RIP us. Luckly I have lots of supplies from the last few hurricane warnings.
Its back to category 4 at 935mb and 155mph sustained wind. Seems like it's expected to lose energy as it steams toward Hawaii, and there's a fairly good chance that it will just be an extremely close shave and the eye never makes landfall. The islands should still expect lots of rain and strong winds, even if they dodge the bullet. However, there's always the possibility of the track changing between now and then so still gotta watch it.

Hurricanes are beautiful, though. Watch the whole thing.

Fourm shark here. Sorry i deleted my account for personal reasons. If anyone is interested for an up close and personal accounting of this. So the run down is that im in oahu on my honeymoon with my wife and we are staying in kailua town on the west side of the island. We are set to fly out friday afternoon. Chances are the flight is going to be delayed or cancelled and ill have to stay at the airport and ride it out. Were all packed up to go today id we need to. Ill keep youall posted here.
Stay safe!
How much you wanna bet Trump doesn't know Hawaii is part of the United States and will give it about as much attention as Puerto Rico
No-one could be that stupid.
Right?
Plus, Puerto Rico has been ignored by almost every President to enter office since it was admitted as a territory. Most can't even point to it on a map.
Trump has a hotel there and it's the Pacific Command of the Military. Hawaii has large military bases from each branch, including Hickam AFB/Pearl Harbor. The response will be instantaneous. The hurricane won't be as bad as Hurricane Maria was for Puerto Rico because Maria was a direct hit, and PRs infrastructure was crap to begin with. In the hours after Maria, the hardest part of responding was logistics. Hawaii will already likely have this settled due to their large military presence.
If there's anybody who can fuck this up, it's Trump.
Shit, my sister's in Hawaii..
Upgraded to active hurricane warning on oahu. Expected to hit thursday. Might get stuck in a condo if roads out of kailua get blocked by fallen trees. We'll see. Just want off this island and want to go back home
Good luck, man. Natural disasters are ruthless. I saw Port Aransas after Harvey, and it was comparable to the Swamp Fever campaign of L4D2
Luckily you're pretty much on the opposite side of the island from where the storm is. Plus you're next to the Marine base so any potential rescue will be quick.
On the north coast of Oahu here, getting told by officials to remember evac routes and shit, family's got go-bags prepped in case of having to actually leave, not that we'd be able to get anywhere on the one road out if that's the case.
Not exactly too worried about that though, our house's been here for a fuckton of storms i've been told, just gotta worry about a little bit of street flooding for the hen-house, but they've been moved up onto higher ground so that shouldnt be too much of a problem
Check out this weather bouy that took a direct hit:

This is going to be an event where the rainfall totals will be a bigger threat than the wind.
No rain on oahu yet. Expected within next few hours. We leave for the airport before 8am. Good luck everyone.
Wee, getting hit by the rain now on north coast oahu, woke me up but so far its going alright
Made it to the airport. Winds are picking up now.
You'll be getting out of there just in time.
Judging by the time lapse on my app here it's probably gonna skirt past the big island but it's still gunning for Honolulu

the biggest killer and danger from hurricanes (on locations on bodies of water ofc) is not rain or the wind (ish). it's the storm surge. the hurricane(via wind and airpressure) is pushing massive amounts of seawater onto land on one side. a storm surge can funnel several feet of water onto an area in mere minutes.
While that is generally true, surge isn't much of a concern with this hurricane at the moment since it's still well off the coast. However the rain bands have already caused widespread flash flooding on the big island. Part is due to topography that is causing rain over a large area to flow towards one side of the island. So far most of the heavy flooding has been towards the east side of the island. This is sort of similar to Hurricane Harvey's impact on Houston. It wasn't where the eye made landfall, but the rain caused widespread damage. If we're lucky, the hurricane won't made landfall and will soon begin to turn west. There's still a possibility it will get a lot closer to Oahu than previously expected. Then surge might be a concern for Honolulu beaches. Still seems like rain will be the bigger issue here though. The surf is also picking up near Oahu but that's expected.

I'm from the @northshore of Oahu, my parents still live there. They're always prepared for natural disasters and the like and since Lane is coming from the south, the Ko'olau mountain range will probably help shield the north side a bit.
Just saw one of my friends from back home post this on Facebook: Boiling Pots in Wailuku on the Big Island right now.
