oh no
Wow.... that art style does not look good. And personally I don't consider it a good sign when your announcement video has no actual content, and is just people talking about the project or the company, usually a really really bad sign.
They still use fucking flash on their videos so I'm not convinced it won't be bad.
So it is a cartoon with Japanese anime inspirations?
Maybe work on making your video streaming service not a pile of shit instead of funding an animation project? Sure, maybe they could do both but I think one is clearly more important than the other.
Welcome to CalArts. This isn't anime.
It's CalArts with anime eyes.
Looks like this has bean done before.
Wow it's like extra sad Steven Universe.
Hey, at least the proportions are consistent
"This show has a lot of heart that i don't think would have come through from any other studio." https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1750/e189d210-3a4d-4b04-8258-fe71cb2bacaa/image.png 🤔
Oh shit, they got Revolver Ocelot's mother on board
https://i.imgur.com/MrrNxHW.png https://i.imgur.com/r2eBQwb.png Outch. Looks pretty generic and so does the description. The lives of four fierce girls converge at High Guardian Academy, the one place where they can stumble towards adulthood while becoming the heroes they've always admired. As they master the ways of battle and sorcery, our foursome form allegiances and comical kinships, uncover legacies and betrayals, and discover their true identities while preparing to protect the world from an ominous unknown threat. I feel the comments are disabled because of comments about the writers. The idea of this apparently dates back to 2014: High Guardian Spice Poster by Rayetoons on Newgrounds Seems like the original author is on the team though. https://twitter.com/dinoraye
The title of the thing doesn't even make any sense, "High Guardian Spice" sounds like some stupid fucking weedlord name.
I feel like Crunchyroll went to DashCon to hire those people🤔
If you feel the need to tell how much of your team is whatever under-represented group, that signifies that the product will be bad imo.
Many of the worst movies and games have had trailers and announcement videos like that, it's almost a surefire sign that whatever is being made is going to suck ass. The biggest example in my mind is Cats and Dogs 2's theatrical trailer was mostly just people working on it talking to the camera. It's almost an attempt to justify something by saying "hey real people are working on this who care about it, so it must be good, right?" because the thing is so awful it can't speak for itself.
At least they changed the main character's design away from "Madoka, but with a sword". You can maybe explain the lack of animation shown so far by the fact it's coming out in 2019. Then again, depending on when in 2019, that still might be a bad sign. Late 2019? Sure, give them a bit to work on it. Early 2019? no
I mean the poster isn't the worst thing ever, but their eagerness to talk about the people working on the show instead of the show itself and the vagueness of what they did reveal doesn't inspire confidence.
They removed the ability to even rate the video now lmao.
We're so diverse. Our writing staff is 100% women!
This is the definition of a stereotypical Tumblr art style.
Isn't it missing red noses though?
holy shit this post is underrated
I like how the character designs dont mesh well with each other, as if half were drawn and designed by one person while another did the rest,
When you subscribe to Crunchyroll to try and support the industry but it gets funneled into some shitty CalArts knockoff reminder to not sub to CR as the industry gets very little of that money, you're paying for video quality and subs worse than fan stuff and also buying merch/BDs directly from Japan will do more than what your sub money would ever do.
The most unsettling part about the design imo is the mouths. They're massive Jesus.
merch i can understand, but BDs? what do you think we are, billionaires?
If you have to describe the thing your working on as "genuine" and "heartwarming", your doing it wrong. Unless your being vindicated by history, those are just buzzwords. This kinda looks like Steven Universe meets RWBY.
