https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/21/world/europe/nazi-guard-deported.html I thought his was interesting after reading about the Mexican husband being detained trying to drive his pregnant wife to the hospital. At least the anti-immigration policies are consistent.
He wasn't doing anything wrong. In fact, it seems as if he wanted to put it all behind him. I'd understand if he were actively attempting to undermine American Democracy, or promoting Fascism, but he was just living quietly. I hadn't even known he had existed until I read this article. This is just deportation for a few brownie points. And since the Trump cabinet is parading this around like some huge success, I'm sure a few people who live in Dusseldorf may screw with him because he used to be a Nazi. All-in-all, bad idea. Should've just left him here.
ICE: ah shit we're the modern day gestapo, better deport a 200 year old man who doesnt even rea
I believe he's being deported because he lied on his citizenship test. When you apply for citizenship, they ask you very specific questions about your past, including whether or not you were a member of the Nazi party between the 1930s to the 1940s, whether you were involved with genocide, german concentration camps, etc. and he lied on those questions, claiming to have been a farmer and factory worker when it reality he was a concentration camp guard. It would be totally unfair for the government to go after otherwise law-abiding latinos who lied on their citizenship exams and not go after a literal Nazi who lied about his involvement with the most horrific chapter of human history in order to get into the United States
Also there's no statute of limitations on crimes against humanity, we have a legal and moral obligation to turn him in.
I can only imagine what the reaction would be if the headline was about the Trump administration deporting latino illegal immigrants while refusing to deport a known Nazi war criminal who immigrated illegally. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
