The crosswalk was installed Thursday by the City of Burnaby in anticipation of Burnaby Pride event on Saturday. https://www.burnabynow.com/news/someone-vandalized-burnaby-s-rainbow-crosswalk-1.23396451

LGBTQ2S is an acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, and 2-Spirit. Some estimates put the number at 40% of homeless youth identifying as LGBTQ2S. Why does the Native American religious thing have any place in that acronym, let alone have it take up twice as many characters as the other groups? Why not leave it at LGBTQ? That covers everyone.

or that awful version BLM pressured some pride groups to adopt: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/108633/526e0e39-c27a-4d36-b25f-911c897e3764/image.png
God that shit was fucking stupid. The gist of the idea was "yeah y'all are oppressed but black and brown gay people are EXTRA oppressed so we need to be on the flag"
At that point is was just self-victimization because the flag is a fucking rainbow. Its sole purpose is to be all-inclusive. Once you start saying you aren't included "enough" in something like that, you're just attention whoring.
Doesn't really affect anyone though
Why not just say "(gender)queer". It means "not straight/cis".
Wasn't "Queer" a slur before the modern feminist movement? Isn't it still a slur? Sorry fellas, I'm not well-versed in modern terminology regarding the LGBTQ+ movement.
Ahh, I see. Seems kind of weird, though. Comparable to the fact that most black youth use the term "nigga" when 50 years ago it was extremely offensive.
2s is a real thing from first nations and deserves recognition. 2 spirit is a gender identity that we white people didn't make, it's one of many alternative and extra identites that had come about naturally in the world and it's like gender fluid but with exclusive ceremonial aspects, very respected in their culture.
I mean it kinda' does. It creates confusion and in fighting. Coin LGBTQ and you'll get people treating folks that use LGBT as suspect. Coin LGBTQ2S+ and you'll get people treating folks using anything less as suspect. The power of the acronym in the first place is, in essence, branding. Same with the rainbow flag. When you keep meddling with them, you weaken the power of the brand. We're outright reaching a point where everyday people just aren't gonna' remember the acronym. Like, imagine if the American flag was modified every other year - you can bet that it wouldn't be such a rallying point for Americans. LGBT+ should be enough. It maintains the recognisably of the original acronym, whilst recognising it doesn't cover everyone. You don't need to add every such minority to the acronym in order to say they are included in the community and doing so only further highlights those minorities you didn't feel the need to include. And you will miss someone. There are too many cultures with too many cultural nuances for you not to. Fuck, we have a different acronym in this very thread; LGBTQIA+. Does that become LGBTQIA2S+? I get it. People ask to be included in the acronym and no one has the heart to say no. But the acronym and the flag exist to be recognisable; making them harder to recognise will have consequences.
Man, these phone models are getting really confusing. I can't even tell which is the latest one.

Isn't that what the + is for, then? An acronym only works if it's easy to use in speech, and when it's both lengthy and constantly changing, then it stops serving it's function. It's one thing to understand and include everyone in the movement, but it's another to try and cram all of them into the title, in my opinion.
Ayy lmao How the fuck is someone supposed to react apart from chuckling?
Just being LGBT is how it should have stayed. I can somewhat understand the Q, but literally no one other than online keyboard warriors cares beyond that.
I don't give a shit about the specific acronym used in the article. What's truly appalling is that anybody thinks it's a funny joke to vandalize a public space with a reference to "the Jewish Question".
They all came out of the woodwork on the day the nazi died. I don't like it, hell I certainly hope nobody on this website likes it, but Nazis never fully went away and treating them as a harmless joke just gives them more chances to get back on their feet.
I mostly use LGBT and I prefer it. Sometimes I use LGBTQ or LGBT+ if I'm in a more "formal" situation or when I'm trying to have an academic discussion with other queer people. LGBTQ+ offends my abbreviation sensibilities just a bit too much for me to feel okay using. LGBTQ2S+ makes me want to rip my own spine out. I'm sorry, NO abbreviation can be that long. That kills the entire point of abbreviations and actively drives our own cause backwards. Representation is important but it's also very important that we have something short and memorable to collectively label ourselves as. Having simple terms really smoothes out the wrinkles in discussion and mass conversation and makes it FAR easier to get into the discussion of real issues. ...I actually heard LGBTQIAI2S++ once. Yes, with two pluses. The first I is Intersex, the A is Asexual. I literally don't remember what the second I was, nor do I remember why there was a second plus. I remember it so clearly because I was so floored that anybody would ever think that such a long, cumbersome, and just awful abbreviation was okay to make. Not that I think intersex and asexual people are unimportant - quite the opposite - but The Acronym really just CAN'T be that long. Two-spirit seems weird to me and my immediate reaction is to think it's maybe not a thing but I've done zero research into it so I can't definitively say whether it's a thing or not. And leave the racial minorities out, that's an equally, if not more, important struggle but it's certainly a largely separate struggle and we don't need the added confusion fucking with the conversation.
We need an acronym for the acronym
L
G🅱️T
The LGBT community needs to drop the acronym altogether. It's meant to be inclusive but by its very nature its excluding anyone not in the acronym. They need to come up with some catchy name that doesn't sound dumb to say so they can include whoever they want without feeling the need to become LGBTQOMGWTF? Something cool, that makes people think "Hey that groups sounds cool I want to check them out." I have no ideas, but I'm sure someone could come up with something good.
I agree wholeheartedly but LGBT is sticking and so it shall stick. I bet if a strong attempt to change it is made, people will start saying "oh those crazy kids keep trying to change things! MY OLD BRAIN CAN'T KEEP UP!!" Also "Queer" totally works I think, but some people just aren't ready to fully reclaim the word yet. A shame, in my opinion, it'd be perfect.
The L and G could merge into H for Homosexual
HGT somehow reminds me of both HGTV (the television channel) and HGH (human growth hormone) at the same time
