Petrol and diesel cars will be banned from nine roads in east London in a bid to tackle toxic air. Drivers will receive a £130 penalty if they use anything other than electric or hybrid models in areas of Hackney and Islington between 7am-10am and 4pm-7pm on weekdays.  ... The affected roads under the new scheme are Blackall Street, Cowper Street, Paul Street, Tabernacle Street, Ravey Street, Singer Street, Willow Street, Charlotte Road and Rivington Street.  ... The City of London Corporation will launch a similar trial in April, limiting access to Moor Lane, near Moorgate, to ultra-low emission vehicles. It came as a new medical report said Londoners could live longer if toxic air is slashed. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/transport/petrol-and-diesel-cars-are-banned-from-east-london-roads-to-tackle-toxic-air-a3917861.html
So now the problem will move to other roads, fantastic.
In Virginia near DC they raised the tolls on i-66 (Main road into DC) to like $40 at peak hours https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/dr-gridlock/wp/2018/01/24/the-toll-on-i-66-inside-the-beltway-hit-46-75-wednesday-morning/?utm_term=.1ebdd06413f3 People just drive on their way worse State Route 50 now which has traffic lights and fewer lanes
Does the gov offer subsidies for purchasing an electric car? If fines are going to start being issued for ICE cars then the revenue should be used for a subsidy.
It came as a new medical report said Londoners could live longer if toxic air is slashed. Does this really need a report to be found out?
Yes
Yes, the government does off subsidies on electric vehicles. You also currently don't have to pay road tax on electric vehicles.
£4500 Grant for a new BEV. £500 Grant for a home charger.
That's fantastic, the England is really leading the way on electric vehicles.
While England isn't doing too bad, Norway is really leading the way.
how is england leading the way..? we're doing a good start tho
Yeah true. Eh fine, they're doing things. More than Aus that's for sure.
You guys have a government that rivals Trump when it comes to environmental policy. The EV market might start taking off when Model 3 comes out next year though.
