https://torrentfreak.com/after-stopping-pirates-denuvo-plans-to-catch-cheaters-too-180822/ Denuvo, the company that's widely known for its anti-piracy solution in games, is expanding its reach. Parent company Irdeto announced today that it will soon launch its own anti-cheat technology, to keep games fair and enjoyable for everyone. “Thankfully, we are finally seeing the industry taking anti-cheat as seriously as anti-piracy,” Irdeto’s Bob Hernandez wrote two months ago. “To succeed, they’ll need to put anti-cheat strategies at the heart of game design, alongside smart technologies for cheat detection, data encryption and behavioral analysis.” Today, Iredeto announced that they’re joining the Esports Integrity Coalition (ESIC). And perhaps more importantly, Denuvo will soon launch its own anti-cheat technology to help solve this problem. “Denuvo’s Anti-Cheat technology, which is soon to be launched as a full end-to-end solution, will prevent hackers in multiplayer games from manipulating and distorting data and code to gain an advantage over other gamers or bypass in-game micro-transactions,” the company says. With its anti-cheating solution, Denuvo hopes to help game companies protect the value of their games. Obligatory: https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/240/075/90f.png
Is every fucking DRM single player game going to have anti cheat so you can't get free loot boxes? this is the worst.
I didn't even think about that particular application, but now that you mention it, it makes perfect sense. They're laying the groundwork for making games like Shadows of War even more profitable than they already were. This isn't about making a better experience for gamers - this is about greed.
On one hand, I very much want intrusive anti-cheat and Denuvo's on-the-fly decryption tech seems like a great candidate. On the other hand, lmao I trust Denuvo very, very little to handle this responsibly.
Saying Denuvo's done nothing is probably not something their clients would agree with.
It was never about protecting consumers or assets, just setting up a big datafarm and selling it to the advertising companies.
Denuvo only prevents tampering with runtime code afaik. Not tampering with the files themselves.
lmao fuck off with this shit. Publishers are raking in millions from microtransactions and they're still not satisfied. Assholes.
Well yeah. Publishers will never be satisfied.
If you're not constantly trying to make more profit at every moment you're failing to the shareholders.
Can't wait to get Denuvo-b& because I have a mouse with more than 3 buttons on it.
I never thought I'd die fighting side-by-side with a script kiddie.
watch as it tags players from just playing the game normally
more and more mods are runtime nowadays, like that dark souls 3 mod that turned you into a stand user: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nc3HDfGV4vE
For starters that joke was stolen from the Simpsons so fuck that anime shit. Secondly, you're kidding right? Denovo has been super effective the most recent releases such as JP World hasn't been cracked yet and it's a top selling game and the main man behind cracking Denovo has been arrested. IT'S BULLSHIT
denuvo and the likes stop customers from buying it because it will eventually not work it is the real cause behind lost sales
I'm not defending it, I'm just saying that it is working at what it's supposed to be doing.
People threw Denuvo a bone by saying how it's not that bad, and now this shit happens. God you have no idea how much I want microtransactions in non-f2p games to go away permanently. Instead it's only getting worse on the AAA side of things.
Sadly the problem isn't Denuvo or the companies that bring about the Micro transactions, it's the consumers that eat it up.
once again pirates would be not affected by this and I am sure they will find a way to cheat lootboxes in their game as well.
Got it one.
That anime is almost as old as the Simpsons, from 1992
Oh fuck, no. NOOOOOOOOOO. Anyway. Practical advice, kids. Don't preorder Wait for reviews Wait how micro transactions are executed (cosmetics are fine) Avoid monthly memberships Wait for sales/discounts Buy season passes if you must (if applicable) TL;DR: Just don't rush at throwing money at big publishers / AAA titles Or if you really don't want them getting any money Buy second-hand physical copies or from "trustable" key stores. Or, you know, Linux Distro sources.
after already avoiding any denuvo game like the plague, i guess this is more reason to do so and i encourage others to do so as well because fuck denuvo for a whole shitload of reasons you guys already try to milk your customers, the least you could do is not be hyper restrictive while you do it
I remember people saying denuvo would stop cheaters way back when it was first around because people didnt understand what it was doing. Its the same with people now saying its going to "stop modding". Sure it'll stop whatever its setup to stop. If your mod requires injecting code then you're probably fucked yes.
well quite a bit of modding requires that on games these days because official support is non-existent
