In the past few months I've seen stories here saying you should have a beer every once in awhile to stay healthy, that alcohol will shave years off of your life, and that you will die if you drink anything. These are fucking ridiculous, lmao. I'm gonna keep drinkin'.
I believe this but it's confusing as all hell. My grandmother is still going strong at 94 and she swears it's because of her glass of wine a day. What the fuck is the secret.
if you drink alcohol you will die eventually coincidentally, if you don't drink alcohol you will also die eventually.
Truth is, there is no secret. Just don't go overboard on anything and let luck do its part
lmao typical scientist lies. I've recently cut back to 12 beers a night (from 24) and I've never felt better. Can't stand these teetotalling losers
if you drink alcohol you die but you also die if you drink water you all are fucked either way
The secret is to drink Hydrogen Peroxide.
You know what else increases the risk of health problems and dying? Everything.
Don't drink booze, be the healthiest skeleton in the graveyard
my grandfather has been an alcoholic for his whole life, he drinks at least a few bottles of whisky a week for the past 30 years and god knows how many packs of cigs. he's perfectly healthy and still alive. my mum's best friend got a brain tumor and died in her early thirties after never drinking or smoking once in her life you can obviously swing the odds heavily against by smoking and drinking but at the end of the day life is cruel and random so i'm gonna continue my (partially) responsible alcohol intake and just hope for the best.
The important parts: Compared to abstinence, imbibing one "standard drink" - 10 grammes of alcohol, equivalent to a small beer, glass of wine or shot of spirits - per day, for example, ups the odds of developing at least one of two dozen health problems by about half-a-per cent, the researchers reported. Big fucking deal, a measly half a percent increase in chance to develop some health problems if I have one drink every day. The risk climbs in a steep "J-curve", the study found. An average of two drinks per day, for example, translated into a 7.0 per cent hike in disease and injury compared to those who opt for abstinence. With five "units" of alcohol per day, the likelihood of serious consequences jumps by 37 per cent. No surprises there honestly.
So does this study only apply to inner health problems? It doesn't talk about "I'm gonna sip some beer and crash my car" type of problems?

I had two double gin and tonics last night which is a disaster for my body size but I had the most fun in a long ass while so I'll take drinking over these studies that change every damn month.
big if true
My grandmother on my mom's side was the same actually. Full of energy at a really, really old age and she drank wine at lunch and dinner.
People have been drinking alcohol for what... 6000 years? As a primary means of clean hydration for much of those years... I think its ok.
They want everyone to stop drinking so they can keep all of it to themselves
Weird how people talk about how they need to cut certain things out of their diet but the moment any study comes for their beer or meat they claim it's bullshit or that they'd rather die.
life's about living, not seeing how many years you can stack.
As we know, the only things worth living in life are booze and meat
i really have no idea where you're going with this or what point you're trying to make.
People can choose not to drink alcohol but doing so purely for this reason is moronic. There's alcoholics that will live for 90 years and there's super health conscious people that get cancer and die at 40. Most of it is down to genetics. If you avoided everything that some scientist claimed was harmful to you or would take years off your life you may as well be dead.
Alright well while you're spewing platitudes from atop your high horse instead of providing any thoughtful commentary I'll be down here enjoying a steak and a cold beer.
This makes more sense when its a Singapore news source
Reminds me of this grave stone in The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine https://i.imgur.com/0iZ1f2N.jpg

I'll keep enjoying my occasional beer, cider, and wine thanks.
beer's just too good to give up
