Hopefully he'll survive long enough to do finally something honorable about Trump like vote to remove from office
I'd prefer to just let him die in peace, to be honest. I'm not too concerned about what more he can do to further my political interests, the dude has earned his rest.
I'm thinking more about his legacy. The article talks about how he's drawn criticism from his own party for going agains the party line, but he never backs up the shit he talks. If he wants to really be remembered as a principled Republican who did what he thought was right, he should probably actually start doing what he thinks is right
Trump saying "I prefer veterans who weren't captured" should have sunk him, what a disrespectful asshole.

Hope he's at peace.
and has been absent from Washington since December.
Quite literally yesterday I thought "hey, I haven't heard about john mccain in a long time. Did I miss his death or something?"
If he's discontinuing treatment it most likely means that he's at the stage where he has no business taking a plane to Washington to do anything.
John McCain and his cancer is pretty much the Republican Party atm.
The Last shrivel of decency being devoured by the cancer that is Tribalism, cronyism, and Trump's batshit insanity.
John McCain is not "decent".
You can say what you like about his politics, but this is a man who literally went to war for the United States and paid a huge price for it. He is literally a war hero who put his own neck on the line and nearly lost it fighting for what he thought was right, so let's not pretend he's some spineless coward. McCain's political career has been focused on trying to normalize and deradicalize the extremist GOP, a mission that would have been a failure right out of the gate if he pissed off the entire party by standing against them outright on everything he disagreed with, because that would only have further amplified the extremism and not gotten him re-elected.
He's doing his honest fucking best, the least you can do is afford him some respect instead of whining about him basically not just being a democrat.
thats why i meant he's whatever is left of "Decency" of the republican party. To show how far it has fallen.
By Republican standards, he's a god damned class act. Doesn't mean I agree with every position he's ever taken, though. I absolutely don't.
McCain along with Democrat Russ Feingold pushed for the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, which while repeatedly eroded by the Supreme Court (like in Citizens United) is why political ads say "I'm __ and I
approve this message".
McCain defending Hillary Clinton's top aide Human Abedin against racist attacks from the far-right wing of the GOP

McCain was the last Republican presidential candidate, that as a leftist voter, you would not have felt like shooting yourself in the face if he had won.
I don't think he's a coward, I think he's just dishonest
The comments section of that video is disgusting. McCain, while perhaps not the greatest politician to grace the floor, was pretty much as bipartisan as a Republican can get and that is certainly a commendable trait.
He does not deserve to, nor shall he, go down as one of the traitors of the early 21st century.
In a way, his funeral will be his final statement on current politics, as he's not only asked that his own party's current president not attend the service, but has reportedly invited Obama, the man he ran the campaign of his life against, to give a eulogy.
I feel like it's a bit hypocritical to wax about a time when conservatives could be more moderate and more reasonable and then shit on McCain for not voting with the Democrats every chance he got.
Fuck that. There is nothing decent about John McCain, a man who spend the last decade on this Earth happily handing over weapons to the biggest pieces of human scum imaginable. From literal neo-nazis in Ukraine, to literal Islamic terrorists in North Africa and the Middle East, McCain handed over US-made weapons to those pieces of vermin, and then pretended to having not known those people were that bad once they started to commit acts of terror with those weapons. He's the epitome of a warmongering prick being fully in the interest of the Military Industrial Complex. The only reason why the Dems suddenly liked him, despite calling him also Hitler in 2008, is because he was an easy opponent to beat. You fling an accusation at him, and he folds harder than he did to the Charlies. Plus, it's always easy to campaign against an utter warmonger. Doesn't help either that he spent the last few years doing the polar opposite of what he used to promise his voters back in Arizona. He could have stepped down a few months back to give the voters of Arizona a special election, so they would have a representative for them in Washington DC, instead of hogging a seat whose tasks he clearly could no longer fulfil. It's just utter contempt towards his own state.
If anything McCain should have folded on, was his piloting career after he crashed his first plane. There are hundreds of families who would still have their sons around if McCain didn't stop crashing planes all around the world, each time with more disastrous consequences than the last. Given how normal people would get a single ticket to Leavenworth for crashing planes or helicopters, the only reason McCain was allowed to keep flying planes despite his horrid track record, was because his daddy was a top Admiral in the Navy. John McCain is one of those people who could have saved a lot of American lives if he just stayed home. Or did anything else than crashing planes. There isn't anything heroic in being utterly shit at your job, especially when a lot of lives are on the line. Evenmoreso if you end singing like a bird to your captors, and thus put the lives on the line of much better men.
If anything, McCain dying is a good thing to the rest of the world, given how that's one politician less who would fund the most obvious scum on the planet and then ducks any kind of responsibility from his actions. Good riddance to that warmongering tumor of a man, he can go shake hands again with those terrorists in hell for all I care.
Where the Republicans not an insane death cult this probably wouldn't have happened, but the capitulation of the party to the Trump brand of culture war politics has lead many people to feel nostalgaic for the "principled" Republican; the person you could have very real disagreements over things like fiscal and foreign policy but still walk away from after shaking their hand. I like McCain anyway (voted for him in 2008, my first election) but even if I didn't I feel like it would be difficult not to defend him.
Well as long as he believed in his heart that those brown people needed bombing I guess I can overlook his unwavering track record of destroying the lives of the poor and working class to enrich the wealthy. Thank You John McCain!!!! *salutes*

I think the worst part about this whole hypocritical and spiteful screed is that you don't even believe in it. You just don't like McCain because he is vocal opposition to Trump from his own party. He was one of the few people who didn't bend the knee, all the way into 2018.
I doubt you hate McCain more than I hate Trump but I can't possibly imagine sitting on FP and making a post gleefully celebrating Trump slowly dying to brain cancer.
I'm fine with him voting party line in shit he legitimately believes in, that would at least make him principled. I'm just saying that he talks a big game against Trump but still votes with the party. He's got a lot of influence, he could've done more to get the party behind him against Trump, but he didn't
Eh it doesn't matter. He's made his post, willing to bet he'll just scurry away and wont reply as usual.
When was the last time you were an actual human being and not just a walking agenda
Imagine saying something like this outloud.
Easiest way to tell when someone has been watching too much RT
If he was a US citizen. I'd probably call him the "Cancer" that is devouring the Republican Party.
Like the post i mentioned above.
I don't know anything about McCain or his political stance or career for the most part, but the fact that he had, and still has a lot of respect for the man he lost a political campaign against, and didn't let people spout absolute bullshit about Obama (see that video further up the page) says a lot about his character.
