Is there any considerable difference between an internal and external DVD drive? I'm currently building my first media server and I'm deciding on the case to get, and I'm curious whether I need one with a bay for an optical drive. Is there enough of a difference between the two to warrant getting a case that supports an internal optical drive or can I use my external one with little speed/quality loss?
I don't think there's any sort of loss. How often will you use it? Now and then? Just get a USB one.
Ive been using a USB dvd drive for 3 years now and don’t have any complaints with it. I actually have an internal burner but I don’t have enough SATA power cables but I haven’t bothered getting another since the usb drive is fine
