Andrew Cuomo, who will appear on next month’s ballot. A centrist by Democratic standards, Cuomo, who is straight, has indisputable bona fides as both an LGBT ally and critic of President Donald Trump. But Cuomo also carries baggage for exacting pain on unloyal progressives, backing lawmakers who blocked progressive LGBT bills, and undermining the New York City Subway system. Yet the most upsetting aspect of HRC’s endorsement, critics say, is that the group snubbed Cynthia Nixon, a bisexual woman and longtime political activist. “The HRC endorsement hurts Cynthia Nixon’s chances,” New York City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, a gay man who has endorsed Nixon, told BuzzFeed News. He said the group is chipping away at support for a queer woman whose platform reflects much of the state’s diverse, transit-reliant LGBT base in New York City. “Coming out against a viable progressive queer person is the wrong thing to do,” he said. The star of Sex and the City announced in March she’d mount a challenge, six weeks after HRC had endorsed Cuomo. Since then, HRC has redoubled its commitment to the governor, who has raised more than $30 million on his own. The organization says it will campaign for him by working with its members to send emails and make phone calls — and participate in events — while using its volunteers to support his reelection.
Queer people do not inherently deserve positions of power more than anyone else.
i mean, has she ever even held an actual political office before? from what i can see shes hasnt, so if i had to choose between someone with no experience and someone with actual experience i would say the latter... going right into a governorship seems like a bit too much of a big step as well to me
Nixon is such a ridiculous long shot its not even close to being bernie.
If we're looking at a policy by policy issue I might pick Cuome over her, LGBT isn't the magnum opus of why you should vote for someone after all Though not familiar enough to say either way which I'd pick at the moment, but there are hundreds more things to be looking at than just 1 thing
Sure, If you should know she don’t always promoting LGBT as single issue, she have more issues favoring both Socially Progressive and Anti-Establishment folks if keep following her in social media accounts or threads I literally but out once of while.
I wouldn’t trust Cuomo with anything like that. He’s notorious for swinging his opinion back and forth on matters just for votes and approval. For marijuna, he was back and forth for years, pretty much every time he’d speak about it his opinion was the opposite of before.
While I don't think Nixon should be endorsed just because she is bi, I would be worried about Cuomo based on his history.
Glad to see Rivers Cuomo is still active after all of these years
Problem isn't necessarily that Nixon is Queer and thus should be the party nomination, it's the Cuomo's a piece of shit that hasn't really supported LGBTQ rights, and yet the Human Rights Campaign, an organization founded on poltiical lobbying for minorities including the LGBTQ community, it supporting Cuomo explicitly for his LGBTQ Support which isn't as good as it fucking should be.
