Hi !
I was reviewing current roadmap for Rust.
And i'm verry not excited about this : "Weight Limits & Backpacks".
"Reduce movement speed when carrying too many items. Backpacks will increase the amount you can carry before being encumbered. Move faster on roads. Potentially remove the slot limitation in the main inventory and allow it to scroll, making weight the only limiting factor."
It became a standard in video game, but I'll be verry sad to see this in RUST.
I have arround 1500 hours on RUST. I know that after so many hours, the nice thing about RUST is that it's always a pleasure and verry exciting to just run through the map, discover, visiting... I never got tired of this... I Don't want anything to break that
And this would make any naked out for farming stone to make it's first 2x1, slower than the Geared PVP dude running at him
You know how much you have to farm in Rust. Can you imagine needing to get back to home after farming 5K of stone, because you are getting too slow !?
SOLO, populated server : first walks are very critical, because you are naked. First travel to get this 40 low grade fuel. Don't expect to take anything else on the path, because you'll get slower and so weaker. I see so many situation where it sucks.
OPEN TO DEBATES.
THX.
Agreed, too much realism, another in-game mechanic I think it's 100% unneeded.
Highly disagree, more "realism" is what is needed in this game. To soft as it is
More realism and stop adding more bloody tech!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see the "realism" argument coming and coming....
Let's be "realistic" then.
They could add a feature to "take your cloth on", where you will have to lace your shoes to put it.
And if they do the weight system logical in it's "realistic" objective :
Humans can handle an average of 50 KG.
You'll need an average of 16.000 KG* of stone to build a little house of 2 meters of diameters.
That mean 320 roundtrip to farm your stone.
While beeing the slowest naked on earth, with a guy behind you carrying 4 AK47 + 5 KG of explosives, and running 2 times faster than you.
Do you agree that it can be too much of realism?
OK, I agree, I went way too far here, beeing ironic.
Feel free to accept this as an argument.
I would see other argument than the realism.
Any idea where adding this feature would make any current situations better in the game?
In what situation this can be good, except making this more "realist" (but as said still not, because it's a game, not a life simulator).
At the same time, we must not forget that it is planned to add a lot of different vehicules...
I just like making plays on a full geared guy, pick up his ak and wipe his friends. I dont want to loot them to then realise oh I cant run with all this its too heavy.... like fuck off game, I deserve all this now let me run to safety x)
I agree and notice that you did not include in your weight calculations that you are also carrying (the usual:)
1 pickaxe, I axe, food, water, bow and arrows (and/or gun and ammo), wood for a fire, wood for building,
STUFF THE REALISM , THIS IS A GAME.
There is no way in reality that you can carry a rifle, rocket launcher, rockets, ammo, axe, pickaxe and melee weapons
food/water/bandages and be able to move around freely.
This is not about realism guys this is Rust, a fully arcade game. This is exactly why I play Rust over a game like Tarkov!
I like all updates but if weight limits will be implemented I'll be verry sad to see this in RUST too.
Honestly if you want weight limits buy SCUM once it's fully released, hell you need to piss in that game so for realism I'd give it 5 stars.
Actually this resource thing could be pretty interesting for making progression better: remove basic resources as inventory items at all. Since building a bunker in a day (I usually build up to 200 satchel worth of small bunkers) is unrealistic at all, maybe only interesting stuff should be counted as loot? Components, scrap, tools, high quality metals, sulphur, fuel, those are all things that are not that heavy (and what the hell are those metals - two walls for price of an AK) and are really interesting. 1k suplphur seems to be less than 1kg actually. And progression based on the fact, that wood, cloth, stone, ore and metal frags would be rather some sort of points than actual items could be actually much more encouraging for a player. Therefore carrying too many gears and pipes would reallistically slow you down, simple.
And the only logical thing would be making those put in the cupboard disappear for good at instant for the sole purpose of bases' upkeep.
Last two wipes I played on map 6000*6000 and I'll play in future on same size because you can feel the space atmosphere, long preaparation for raid, there is no right to an error - forgot the ladder? - Half an hour after her to go home, then back and so on. I spend a lot of time to get from point "A" to point "B" and if there will be weight limitation it will be very annoying.
But if system will be work something like when backpack is dressed and after that only weight limit starts it would be nice I think.
naaaa
