Adding a simple ignore function for certain users. Been running into this single individual that posts on all of my questions and is always condescending or unnecessarily rude in his replies. I've noticed they also do it to other users but they're a higher "level" so I assume they've been here for a while. Out of sight out of mind for both of us.
Suggestion - make more descriptive thread titles
No.
I mean... I can... the only person it possibly inhibits is myself. But more to the point I run into them on other threads mainly because I've said something to the person that asked the question and because I'm new and don't know things I either ask for more information or ask about specific things and I'm just automatically rated with "dumb" simply for asking a question. While I understand the things I'm asking are basic for anyone whose had programming experience outside of GLua... The forums go both ways. If you see something that someone says that makes you facepalm you don't need to make a snide remark you have to make the choice to be shitty to this new person on the forum for no reason other than they're new. I rather ignore people who are quick to do this because it's just rude to begin with. Everyone was a beginner at one point and now that they have more experience new programmers are just their toilet paper to shit on. It's just obnoxious to continuously run into someone who's toxic all the time.
The problem with many people who are getting into GLua (including you) is that after encountering a setback, the first thing that comes in mind is to head over here at Facepunch, create a thread and expect people to help you. The most annoying thing is that the majority of the problems can be solved by just looking them up (there is a high chance the solution is somewhere, you just have to be willing to look) as they are merely simple errors. The other thing is that new coders are taking onto difficult projects without knowing the basics, which is stupid because when somebody actualy does try to help you, you won't understand a thing they say. 'Everyone was a beginner at some point' - yes, but the first thing to do is try to find a solution yourself, and then ask for help. If you don't even try then what is the point? Learning to code is about trial and error, you can't expect to know how to code quickly, that takes some significant time. There are plenty of tutorials, documentation and whatnot to help you understand the syntax, operators and all kinds of stuff. If everyone made a thread about their problem how do you think the forums would look like? Also as someone mentioned before in another thread, this is not Lua Developer Help, but Lua Developer Discussion. People will try to help you, just don't expect them to as it is not their obligation. A sidenote about the ratings, they are there for a reason.
I understand it isn't something seen typically but I've found two people who have volunteered to help me. The reason it devolved in the first place is because I had been having issues every time I posted anywhere for the past 2 days. So yeah it was just me getting fed up with their shit. I think you're under the assumption that I made a bunch of threads asking for the answer to my lua problems - when this isn't the case. The first question I asked was more of a request, to find a mentor. The second question I asked is here: Simple question about Loops As you can see I was following a tutorial series and had a question. Most of the other questions I've asked here were about the OP's issue. I was looking to understand the problem more even if I didn't provide helpful or experienced information. So I'm not running here every single time I get a little setback - I've completed almost the entirety of Code Blue's two courses with no help from this forum. I appreciate you lumping me in with everybody else though and derailing the topic.
Derailing? Your OP was "here's my suggestion, and here's my tragic backstory as to why I want this suggestion implemented" and now people are commenting on that tragic backstory. Also can I just mention how I feel like people would be slightly more enthusiastic to help if your username wasn't "LearningLua"? By default, this just puts off the idea that you are going to be here to ask question after question until you get exactly what you want. Also also, you're not being very cooperative with anyone on this forum either. It's like you expect everyone to be the upmost of politeness towards you, and when that doesn't happen, you just get hostile towards them. Can I mention your post on this thread, where someone just said which, at least the GMod forum goes, is a rule, which you proceeded to respond "No." to? Obviously the rules are up in the air right now, but it's always common courtesy to let people know what you're talking about before opening the thread.
I love how this thread is slowly turning into exactly what I mentioned the problem was. Just everyone being super fuckin toxic.
How old are you?
I don't think the answer matters, does it?
Sad to see you banned, but I have seen you around the forums, you were arrogant, ban was well deserved. Next time, consider reading other people's advice on what do do when you encounter a problem.
