This is really starting to shape of from a technical standpoint. Interested to see if they can recreate the Source Engine feel.
isn't it odd to include the backward bhop? it's clearly a unintended bug that came with OB.
Accelerated backhopping has become a signature of current hl2 movement and adds a lot of depth and skill for speedrunners. Personally I love that they included it.
If this is finished and released, I'm very curious what Valve with respond with. If they're silent that's just pathetic, especially if it's released on Steam.
odd, sure, but not an issue imo. it's a fun lil' glitch that has made itself a seat in many fans' half-eaten hearts in fact, there's nothing I like to do more than to initiate a backwards bhop into the nearest wall, killing me on impact instantly
I've gotta admit, I was extremely sceptical and even ridiculed them for using UE4 when the project started a year ago, but they clearly know what they're doing and things are starting to look really promising. Could potentially turn into a really nice third party closure for Half-Life, I just really, really hope Valve doesn't shut them down before that
The gunplay (especially of the pistol) feels very much like the gunplay in DXMD. I guess its just how they modelled/textured/animated it. Speaking of, I hope they further refine the animations, the gravity gun just had the same repeating animation no matter speed/direction of the player. Still though, it looks fantastic and have hopes for this project.
At this point, Valve responding at all beyond official backing and some supplied art will just make them a laughing stock. This also leaves them wide open to losing the copyright on Half Life as well.
hell would freeze over if valve said anything
Even if they never actually finish the project, they need to release the source code, because it's fucking Half Life 2 physics recreated in Unreal. I can see modders seriously benefiting just from the work they've already done - especially as Source mod development is increasingly a dead end as Valve continues to do fuck-all to help the community.
It's already been a year?
The one year anniverary of Epistle 3 was this month. They started the project really soon after it was released I think as well.
Well, I like mostly everything video except weapon reloading animations (except Shotgun's reloading animation is closest of being recreational to HL2's version) feel way to noncanonical and also they need to add projection shells (including pistol) later in development.
I never knew I needed a Furbo headcrab in my life.
I wish they would ditch valve's pants-on-head retarded weapons. I'm sick of the magical grenade-launching MP7
If you don't like it (especially this is fan game for unfinished episodic game that their creator's giving up), Than creating one for yourself until fan game is publicly released.
They're iconic by now, for better or worse. I always figured the weapons were only there because of being localized to City 17, given the mostly European focus in equipment, so the Borealis and change of environment would be the perfect excuse for some weapon variety, but oh well.
I mean, maybe they're making the old HL2 weapons as a base and then make different stuff. Could be that you lose your weapons at some point and then pick up new stuff.
I know they are trying to recreate the feel of HL2, but i kind of agree. HL2's weapons were not exactly the most fun weapons to shoot even back when it was released. HL1's had much more satisfying animations, and even if they update these and make them pretty high quality, strictly adhering to the timings of HL2's weapons limit how much you can do with them.
Something about the weapon sway/recoil doesn’t feel right to me. Like they exaggerated it just enough for it to be noticeable. That and the gun sounds need a overhaul ASAP. Give them a bit more umph (or a tiny bit less in terms of the pistol).
i really hope they tone down the weapon effects. they are way too over the top, look at the tracers they are shooting. and the mp7 grenade explosion had electricity coming out of it.
Dude it's like pre-pre-alpha why do you think that the very obviously placeholder effects are final?
One of the things that bugged me in a post I saw on Reddit was of the Tau Cannon being included, like if this is a remake of Half Life 2, then the Tau Cannon doesn't fit as a handheld weapon, turns out however it's being included as an Easter Egg, which I'm fine with at that point really.
It doesn't fit how? Tau Cannon was in both Half-Life 1 and 2. Besides, Epistle 3 doesn't seem to contradict the possibility of seeing TC again. After all, it was a pretty notable twist that the Combine nicked the cannon-wielding buggy Gordon had used before he left the lighthouse. I'm pretty sure it was meant to be some kind of a clue that we'd see it in some form again - you know, before Episode 3/Half-Life 3 was put on ice.
Because in Half Life 2 it's not a handheld weapon, it's only mounted onto the Jeep, in the first it was a prototype weapon aswell, though oddly you see 2 Tau Cannon's in Half Life 1 despite it being a prototype, but in Half Life 2, it's only existence is a vehicle mounted weapon, if it wasn't in Half Life 2 it shouldn't fit in a remake of the game, but since it's an Easter Egg then I don't have too much of a problem with it.
But this isn't a remake of Half-Life 2? Like said down there vvv We’re a development team of 70+ members who have come together to create a game based on Marc Laidlaw’s Epistle 3.
The tau cannon isn't said to be included anywhere by anyone official tho
I hope they do include it - its iconic, would be a nice addition to accent the fact this isnt just a remake of hl2 (the episodes also never added new weapons so the last time we saw a new weapon in a half-life game was 2004), and epistle 3 gives enough free room to wiggle something like it without any continuity isssues. I guess since were visiting borealis, maybe some aperture science weapon wouldnt be out of question either. Combustable lemon launcher would be a little too far into meme category though, wouldnt it?
I just hope they get rid of this super-realistic-Unreal engine look in everything, which looks completely off. I would really love if they somehow managed to replicate the lightmapping/shadows from GoldSrc and Source, as it just doesn't feel like HL without it.
