It's crazy to me that these things exist on Earth. If you told me these were alien lifeforms from another planet, I'd believe you.
Some invertebrates are absolutely bizarre. Consider jellyfish: the thing you think of as a jellyfish is actually only the reproductive life stage (a "medusa"). The larva they release actually attach to the seabed and grown into polyps, which release many larval "ephyra" jellyfish that each grow into their own medusa.
