WASHINGTON -- A young woman is speaking out after she says she was fired from her job for being pregnant. Kameisha Denton started working at a Jersey Mike's shop in Washington
state.
After she got the job, she said she sent the store manager a text telling him she's pregnant and will need maternity leave in December. In the text, she wrote, "This will not interfere with
my performance and I will be back after the baby is born."
Denton finished her first week, but then she noticed she wasn't on the schedule. So she texted the manager. He texted her back, writing, "I am sorry to inform you but it's not going to
work out. It's not a good time for us to have someone who is leaving for maternity leave. You also failed to tell us this during your interview."
She said she was shocked. "It's discrimination, you're not supposed to do that," she said. "You don't do that to somebody when they're willing to work to support their baby."
The owner of the Jersey Mike's says he's aware of the text sent by his manager and that manager has been fired.
"First of all, she doesn't have to tell him during any interview that she's pregnant," attorney Reba Weiss said. "And secondly, it's blatantly illegal to terminate a woman because she's
pregnant or going to go on maternity leave." The owner offered Denton her job back, but she turned it down and said is considering legal action.
I am honestly more concerned with what man was willing to impregnate that beast
Same thing I'm wondering about your mom considering how you turned out. What a shitty thing to say.
First, wow, fucking rude
Second, she's not even that ugly,
its almost as if 99.9% of relationships are founded on something that is not physical looks hm interesting
I see nothing wrong with her appearance. What a foul thing to say about someone.
Dude, stop watching TV/Anime. She might not be a supermodel caked in make-up, but she's a very average-looking like most people on this planet.
I love it when assholes are also huge idiots and get what's coming to them because of their own stupidity
Are we talking about the manager in the article, or Terragen?
Let me guess, you were recently fired from a sub shop manager position in Washington.
good, we need strong cultural and legal protections against this sort of thing less we end up like some countries where pregnancy is reviled because of the career harm it does.
Congrats 1/4th of your entire post history is now shitposts.
i'm always thankful for threads like these because then you can see the worst of the worst posters come out. bad posts are worth living for.
Yes.
I'm upset they recently let me go from a Jimmy John's. Sorry.

I'm glad the manager's fired. I'm curious on why she's still considering legal action because this seems like something the business owner handled very swiftly and effectively. Offending party is out of there and she got her job offered back, with a public recognition that what that manager did was unacceptable. Given all that, it's obvious that it's not a practice that the company supports or anything like that
Unpopular opinion incoming:
Something along the lines of a pregnancy is something you should disclose during an interview - it's similar as a planned vacation. The company needs to evaluate the costs of having someone to work for you during your time off. If they were hiring for a permanent position, it should be expected that you'll be present for as many of your scheduled work hours as possible. I would also assume that she is in a 90 probation period and would be under contract to be let go without probable cause.
I think the method she was let go is unreasonable and that there should be better social protections for people who are expecting and require financial assistance for the time off needed. But that's a whole socialism political discussion.
Wow, this might be the most aggressive case of Foot-in-mouth syndrome ever. You might wanna go to a doctor and get checked for Athlete's Esophagus.
Wow you're an asshole.
I can see where you're coming from, but I don't agree due to how our job system works. You aren't applying truthfully, you have to market yourself, embellish the truth and leave out details if it doesn't ask for them. Your employer most likely isn't going to be your friend, and worker protections are weak compared to the EU, so if they're going to play dirty then you might as well.
The owner offered Denton her job back, but she turned it down and said is considering legal action.
Heh, no need to get a job now.
Why would anyone ever hire a pregnant person
I'm surprised Jersey Mikes offers maternity leave. I can't imagine it's paid
If you want to hold a company accountable, make it cost them financially.
Shouldn't have gotten knocked up then.
I wasn't expecting someone to impregnate a beast like me
It's quite literally against state law in most areas
It's certainly against the law up here in "Socialist Canada".
I'm not applying it to this woman, as I have no idea, although it's something the boss might have wanted to know and shoulda been brought up in the interview out of fairness.
I feel sorry for small business owners that employee people that immediately go on maternity leave, then quit. It's a really shitty thing to do to a small business.
Again, not saying this woman has that intention, but it's common enough.
