anybody able to rip out of google earth? I need a patch of Houston. Let me know
I don't think anyone is crazy enough to try that, if I'm not wrong (I probably am) the 3d models are made automatically using a height map.
Besides, I think everyone would be deadly scared of ripping something from Google.
Thanks, used to be able to with 3D ripper XD, but no more unless there's a new way, anybody know?
Just testing. You can ninja rip from a browser. Old firefox still works. The meshes show up in noesis. Blender doesn't have a batch importer for all the chunks of models tho, so i can't tell how easy it is to puzzle together. Assuming that all parts are local transformed you'll have a hard time getting a part of a map done tho. You should forget about that idea, imho.
You can import every model at once by pressing B at file selector, and dragging the box over each file, and clicking Import.
Thank you
@ficool2 , this is really interesting, thanks! I did not know that Blender had this function (but I have to admit that I do not know Blender, except for some functions).
Which importer? Does that work with 100s of meshes? I tried the times square for good measure. I used this and my all selection method (last and shift up) and it imported just the first mesh. If all the chunks being of location and centered and gotta be puzzled it's not really an option anyway.
I used this method for SMD, FBX, XMODEL and OBJ, it always imported everything at once. So idk, maybe its just the format or whatever
Well. The plugin only works with NR 1.6.0 i have here and it has a import folder option. I got the times square.

You can try Sketchup warehouse there is often 3d models of Google maps or Google Earth, besides a long time ago when Sketchup was free the Google bought from it's authors, and after some years one some sort of company bought from google, and become ... paid software...BUT! in warehouse you can find those "map" models and converts (not an easy task, but you reach the goal)
