So a family member asked me to clean up their PC since I'm good at this kind of stuff apparently.
Basically, a long time ago I remember CCcleaner and malwarebytes were the go to solution for removing dirt from a misused computer, but afaik there were some controversies surrounding CCcleaner and I'm just generally out of the loop.
What programs should I use to deep-clean junk files and malware as a one-time thing? Im not really looking for a antivirus solution since windows defender works fine from my experience.
CCLeaner should work perfectly fine, the website just got hacked a while ago but really its fine now as far as I can tell
Probably should actually physically clean it out too, like with a vacuum and air compressor
Malwarebytes, I pay for it, and it's a real bro
No. Bad.
Vacuum cleaners make static electricity.
Well you'll have a lot more problems if you start furiously rubbing the vacuum cleaner against the components.
Otherwise it's fine.
use spacesniffer to look for large programs and files they no longer need
CCleaner was controversial due to anonymous usage statistics, they were complaining about "privacy concerns".
I still use it, there's nothing wrong with it.
Then leave your PC grounded while you're vacuuming.
People always complains about "vacuuming causes static", but has anyone actually damaged any parts whatsoever?
Whats worse, static that can be prevented by grounding or

I remember reading somewhere about putting a sock over the tube is suppose to some how help prevent that, but actually thinking about it now, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense lol.
Compressed air is cheap, so there's really no point in not using it.
And I fully agree that cCleaner is probably your best bet for disk cleaning. Although I'd never heard about this anonymous statistics stuff?
Compressed air is expensive over time. If you clean out a computer every once in a while a datavac will pay for itself.
I went out a bought one of those small 3 gallon electric air compressors as buying cans of air is really expensive if you're anal about keeping your case dust free.
beware if you do this that a lot of them tend to accumulate condensation over time if you don't regularly drain them and tend to spit small amounts of water / oil
