Gmod Keeps Crashing When Trying to Join Multiplayer

Every time I try to join a multiplayer server, Gmod crashes. It's making me pretty upset because I just want to play. Cant even play in a sandbox server.
I'm on a Mac, it's up to date. I uninstalled and reinstalled Gmod, restarted my computer several times, and even checked the steam folder (following some youtube videos) to restart it/try to fix it. Nothing I've tried has worked. Earlier today I could be on a server for a few minutes before it crashed, now I cant even get past the loading screen when trying to join a server without it crashing.
How do I fix this weirdly specific and buggy game before I just give up and uninstall? I've had this problem before but nothing is fixing it this time. I've wasted hours trying to fix it.

Playing on windows will most likely fix it :^)
