Does anybody know of any fishing games where you can catch monsters and weird ass fish and other strange creatures? Like in a lot of MMOs you can fish for strange creatures, but I'm wondering if theres a singleplayer game that lets you do that.
I would get a normal fishing game, but there are plenty of places I can go irl to fish if I wanted, so I dont see much of a point.
I found a couple VR games that are like what I'm talking about but I don't have a headset. Besides VR I'm not picky what platform they're on since I own a ton of new and old consoles.
Do fishing mini games count?
If so, check out Breath Of Fire III and IV. You can(and in some cases must) reel in certain ways to increase the likelihood of landing a catch or in some cases attract rarer fish. There's different areas with different fish. I don't recall if you can catch items in those, but late game DOES have you catching Whaleswith a normal fishing pole. They do put up quite a fight for the record.
Probably not what you're looking for, but Terraria has an equivalent of MMO fishing and also can be played in single-player.
Naw Im looking for a game where thats the main focus
Username checks out.
I don't know if you'll find a game where weird fishing is the main focus, though. You wouldn't be able to do much if fishing was the focus, and progression wouldn't feel right. And if you're getting weird with it, chances are other aspect of the game will suffer from it, sadly.
If you're into weird fishes I would recommend Seaman on the Dreamcast, but it's not a fishing gme, unfortunately.
Dragging weird creatures out of ponds is a common theme in many RPGs, but I can't think of a game with fishing as its central game mechanic that doesn't focus on realism (or at least real life analogues).
I have doubts that such a game actually exists, because I can't think of a way for that to make sense. What VR games like this did you find?
Final Fantasy has a vr fishing game. And Im assuming you can catch monsters n shit in that.
Ridiculous fishing, but that's an app. Still a nice way to spend some time.
Yes, I thought about that, but it's not a fully fledged game, plus you'll see everything the game has to offer in an hour, it's no better than a fishing mini game in other games, although it is original.
Well it's free, maybe you can bide your time.
Subnautica does have you catching/examining lots of weird alien fish, but by scuba diving not casting a line from the surface
Yeah I always felt bad about diving in and just fucking grabbing a fish with my bare hands and then just hold the thing in front of my face as it stares back at me.

I've played about 50 hours of this stupid ass game, I would estimate. I was a kid. It's surprisingly okay. Progression is fucking annoying. Has music that will worm its way into your head and stay there for months. 4/10.
This is probably the best I'm gonna find. I'll track down a copy.
Man I played the fuck out of Cocoto Magic Circus on the Wii, I don't know how, it was basically 6 or 7 levels where you had to shoot cardboard ennemies like at a funfair and it was repetitive as hell, except for maybe one or two gimmicks, I could finish the game under an hour when I stopped playing it.
Check out Umizuri in obsidian conflict for some dumb shit. You just fish up random crap from half life 2 but it's always fun when someone catches a hunter chopper.
I wanted to check it out, but I can't download it from your link, downloading mirrors only displays a "example.com" url...
Obsidian conflict had a fishing map which was pretty neat:

It should be one of the default maps that come with Obsidian Conflict. Here's the DL page
How about Fish's Revenge, a game where you are a fish and fish fishermen? Fish.
Fishing games dont even teach you how to fish why even play them you ding dong.
at least it teaches me how to kill sand people and aliens.
