That's Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland up there in the photo. In recent days, when asked about talks, she was "optimistic". Now, after Trump's remarks were leaked, she's not saying the o-word. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/nafta-talks-appear-to-sour-after-report-that-trump-disparaged-canada/2018/08/31/56ba2868-ad30-11e8-8a0c-70b618c98d3c_story.html Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland met with U.S. Trade Representative Robert E. Lighthizer on Friday morning, and in comments to reporters outside the meeting, she took a more subdued tone. In past days, she has repeatedly said she was “optimistic,” but she didn’t use that word on Friday. “We’re not there yet,” she told reporters during a break from meetings. She said they would meet again later in the day. When asked if the U.S. was negotiating in “good faith,” Freeland paused for a moment before saying Lighthizer was “working really, really hard.” She did not mention Trump by name. Minutes earlier, the Toronto Star published what it alleged were off-the-record comments made by Trump on Thursday to Bloomberg. The Star reported Trump told Bloomberg journalists the Nafta talks would only be done on his terms, suggesting he would not offer any concessions to Canada. I think that Trump is going to find that Canada views itself as one of three equals in NAFTA, not a little bitch for Big Daddy Don to push around. Trudeau gave Trump a warning after the G7 summit -- we won't be pushed around -- and all Trump took from it is anger at Trudeau for embarrassing him when he was trying to look tough ahead of the (hilariously pointless) summit with Kim. Don't fuck with Canada. We're polite until we aren't.
Couldn't have said it better. Cheeto in Charge can go choke on goose shit.
