https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/nafta-trump-compromise-trudeau-1.4806240 Donald Trump has admitted to making off-the-record remarks saying the U.S. is in total command of NAFTA talks and that it will make no compromises to reach a deal with Canada. The Toronto Star reported Friday that Trump, in an interview with Bloomberg News, said the U.S. is unwilling to make concessions and that his position was "going to be so insulting they're [Canada] not going to be able to make a deal." CBC has not independently verified the comments. Trump admitted on Twitter that he made the comments to Bloomberg on Friday, claiming an understanding with the news agency that his comments were off-the-record was "blatantly violated." "Oh well, just more dishonest reporting. I am used to it. At least Canada knows where I stand!" he tweeted. https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1035597354395680774 We knew exactly where you stood before this, you gold-plated swamp monster, all you did was confirm it for the historical record. The President of the USA is deliberately fucking with Canada by demanding to renegotiate a free trade deal and refusing to compromise while demanding Canada make severe concessions. Trump should expect Canada to fuck over his December 1st deadline to try and ram the deal through before Mexico's incoming left-wing populist President takes office, now. We're not against renegotiating NAFTA but we want a fair deal and not this daycare-ass ultimatum shit. You mess with the goose, you get bit in the dick.
In your own shitpile?

Trump to advance trade deal with Mexico after NAFTA talks with Canada falter High-stakes trade negotiations between the White House and Canadian leaders unraveled Friday, amid strains caused by lingering divisions and comments President Trump made that suggested he would refuse to offer any concessions. The breakdown put Trump’s effort to redraw the North American Free Trade Agreement in legal limbo. The White House formally notified Congress on Friday that it will enter into a trade agreement with Mexico. The letter stipulated that Canada could also be added “if it is willing.” But it is unclear whether a three-nation trade pact can be replaced under congressional rules with a two-nation agreement. White House officials vowed to continue discussions with Canada, and talks are expected to pick back up on Wednesday. “The talks were constructive, and we made progress,” U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said in a statement.’ But Trump seemed willing to leave Canada out of a final deal. “If we don’t make a deal on Canada, that’s fine,” Trump said Friday at an event in Charlotte, North Carolina. If Republicans give Trump a pass on breaking the rules and unilaterally changing NAFTA from a trilateral agreement to a bilateral agreement with Mexico (Congress has only authorized the President's trade authority to the trilateral agreement), and Democrats take the House in November, this plan is fucking dead in the water if Canada isn't on board by then. And Canada is not signing on unless the US offers us a good deal, and not a "good deal" according to Trump. Republicans in Congress have said that Canada must be a part of the deal, presumably because even they understand the economic relationship between the three countries better than Cheetohead who just says and does what he wants, but we'll see if they're more than mildly concerned when the chips are down.
