because there was so much preventing valve from producing anything meaningful in the past six years
I wont hold my breath.
Of course, the kicker is that by "Ready to make games again" Valve just means card games and other small noveltys
SteamVR home is pretty neat t though
“I think we're very aware of all the jokes because all of us lurk all the forums and share them around with each other,”
Then um, do something about it? The jokes became more like forlorn complaining years ago.
I honestly have little interest in anything Valve brings to the table these days. If I didn't already have a massive library on Steam, I wouldn't even use it anymore (especially after this trainwreck of a UI overhaul), GOG is better.
Maybe they realize they need games to get people to keep using their platform?
Theirs a lot of talk in the industry that you don't need to be on steam anymore to succeed on PC.
To risk sounding like one of those guys who will complain no matter what:
Even if this is genuine and Valve starts pumping out games again, it's going to feel like a completely different company was behind them. With all the departures of the core staff over the past year, and they way their company is structured, the valve that made Half-Life 2, even Portal 2 (seven years ago), is one that is vastly different to the one we have today. Their name is no guaranteed mark of quality anymore, and any new titles should be seen with a heavy pinch of skepticism as though they are a new company trying to prove something with their first game.
Maybe Valvetime also effects their internet connection.
Poor bastards probably thought the new Steam chat was totally revolutionary, little did they know Discord already existed!
i could believe that they just wanted to wait a couple years to build up a rock solid monetary base before they started focusing on game development again.
that said, i still won't believe it until i see it. actions speak much louder than words and their next game being 3 years late to the ccg trend isnt setting a great precendent
lol, what do they want, applause? hype? fuck off
the fans are in a "better place" to complain, too.
The Valve we knew is in a "better place"
Make a good game and I'll consider buying it if reviews are good, it holds up as a good game, oh and then only when it goes on sale, that's the best I can offer you Valve. Sorry but you made this bed and you gotta sleep in it.
Very interesting to say this one year and a few days after Epistle 3.
half life card game
The literal last HL content we've gotten was a Kleiner announcer pack for Dota 2, and a HL themed music pack for CSGO (made by Kelly Bailey after he left Valve)
It's possible that the people who worked on older franchises will come back if they start them up again. We already know that people sometimes "leave" Valve because they have nothing to work on atm.
If Valve comes out with a singleplayer game, I swear by the power of Toxx, I'll write and sing a song about it and post it on Facepunch
I feel like the very first thing they should do to start redeeming themselves is port their older games to source 2 and then port them to modern consoles.
Games like the Portal and Half Life series would be awesome on systems like the Switch.
despite their lack of new games, i still can't not appreciate what Valve has done in the past few years in terms of accessibility. with the introduction of the Steam Controller & the Steam Input system, its easier than ever to use controllers with pretty much any game on the platform, with the added bonus of being able to rebind everything.
i remember in the past where to get a PS3 controller working on PC you had to install a bunch of 3rd-party software and drivers that didn't even work that well in the first place, but now you can just hook it up with Steam and it'll work.
Now introducing Ricochet 2 in battle royale mode!
Don't even need steam anymore. Discord does all I need it to do. It's a much better space for chats a groups and actually has a fluid UI.
Keep in mind that in the time period which has been slowed by Gabe Newell's massive gravitational pull, Episode 2 came out 6 months ago and they're wondering what everyone is bitching about
Haven't they been saying this for the past couple years?

Can't wait for Valves' battle royale entry
On the source engine, with all the map size limitations, and none of the exploit patches implemented within CSGO so it'll be full of spinbotters and view angles abuse.
Because they used the 2013 branch as a base for it.
Just watch them do it.
I’m so fucking confused by this. Steam makes so much money per year that they have had tons of excess cash of almost pure profits.
when was there not a time when they could make anything they wanted???
Until they release Source 2 I have no hope.
the last 7 years obviously
they were too busy all buying golden lambos to realise they'd forgotten they were a games company
