Insomniac is kinda talking out of their ass in this case. They say they only changed the puddle size. But they even changed the model of Spidey. He has less effects on his suit, the lighting is very different, etc.
I don't get why they made Spidey smaller.
they are aiming at two different hardware configurations, PS4 and PS4 Pro

even with the changes. It still looks fine.
The only thing i really care about is if the gameplay itself is still intact from the demo. Which should be the biggest priority imo.
A big hyped up graphically impressive E3 trailer being downgraded in the final product? Say it ain't so.
tbh it doesn't really look much has changed besides the lighting being softer.
Probably so he still looks kind of like a guy in his late teens or early twenties. He looks a little beefier in the early shots.
It's funny because there's been a bunch of comparison screenshots/footage and this is the only scene that looks worse so it gets blown up all over the place as the whole game being heavily downgraded.
The industry does have a habit of downgrading though.
This is supposed to be Spider-man later in his career though, not a younger one.
K so far every "downgrade" pic I see isn't even a downgrade. It's just two completely different scenes with completely different lighting but essentially the same exact shaders.
This is basically why CDPR held off releasing that 2077 footage as long as they could. Shit's running on a dope ass PC and optimization will inevitably come with some sacrifices.
Maybe we should never show off games still in progress if they're gonna get this sort of backlash. That way people will never see any downgrade.
TBH I don't trust any gameplay trailer considering how much of any trailer is bullshots and completely unrepresentative of the final product. It's pure marketing bullshit and in instances like this and watch dogs I consider it false advertising. They know the game won't look as good, they intentionally make it that way to get people more hyped and trust we won't remember once the game comes out and we've already bought it.
A lot of games the gameplay trailer can't be trusted beyond "This is a first person shooter" or "This is a survival game".
But I also find cinematics completely worthless as well so as far as I'm concerned E3 might as well just be 5 minutes of guys coming out and saying "Hey, Far Cry 6 is coming out" and then going backstage
it still looks good either way. given that the last good spiderman game (2) looks like lego bricks compared to this i'm not really upset. I just want the web swinging to be as good as that game was
You can't be serious
Well, in their specific case, it was because the Witcher 3 had its own downgrade controversy. Didn't stop it from being the most celebrated game in years, but CDProjectRed is one of the few big developers that actively tries to keep the bullshit to a minimum.
Can't wait to never play this because apparently, permanent console exclusivity is pro consumer.
how are the things you just described not downgrades?
Th..that's what people are yelling about?
Thats clearly two different times of day and you can still see the fucking reflections in the god damn puddles. They've just been moved around. Hell it doesn't even look like the same place.
Or maybe we could get rid of such toxic train of thought.
It is always either "We don't care about graphics, show the game NOW" and "They changed some poligons PREORDER CANCELLED". And if you with not showing it at all you get the "Is the game cancelled?".
The people has to accept that behind such a simple scene can be so many changes from the first look to the released product: optimization changes, reworked visual style, changes due gameplay, etc.
I honestly have no idea why people expect super, super early reveals of games to be reflective of the final product. That early in production the developers might go a bit wild with what they think they can get away with, as it's likely not running on the target hardware yet or if it is, doesn't meet the required performance metrics they want outside of the specific vertical slice they're showing off.
Everything has to make concessions at some point. You'll never get the idealised version of any piece of media because somewhere along the line the creators will realise they either don't have the time to make something, the budget to fund something, or the technology to realise something.
That or they just decided on a slightly different artistic direction after seeing their initial attempts in motion.
I wish I didn't see that part about the cubemap reflections on the skyscraper windows. I bet I would have never noticed that before and now I will notice it every time it happens.
Ah yes, the Crowbcat effect
So, now that the game is actually out, anyone here playing it who can tell whether it's actually a significant downgrade or was it all just bullshit?
I don't get why devs still do over-rendered E3 "gameplay." Just show the actual gameplay, you're going to get called out and ridiculed if you don't. This is proof of that.
This is not proof of that at all, the game was found not to be downgraded after all.
Short answer: No. With exception of less specific cubemaps in that one scene everyone posts, the game actually looks better.
