Resources
While World has put in a "resource" in-game to look things up, there are still things you can look at outside of the game, especially for older games. The best wiki-esque resource is Kiranico where you can look at weapons, armors, monsters and what they drop, and much more. Alternatively, there's the program Ping's Dex: https://sites.google.com/site/pingsdex/pingsmh4dex And there's Athena's armor Set Search (ASS), where you can put in a mix of skills that you want from armor/decos, and it'll spit out a corresponding clown set that'll be min-maxed. Honestly though, fashion > min-maxing.

How prepared should I be for Nergigante? Uragaan is the beefiest boi i've killed so far and i've got a few rarity 6 weapons, can I go in now or should I beat up Azure Rathalos and Black Diablos first?

Health Boost 2 or 3 is good for nerg as well. It'll basically counter act the dreaded one hit KO charge.

Nergigante has at least one move that goes straight through gunlance shield, you shouldn't rely on that.
Black Diablos does a bit of damage through the shield but honestly its not much and you can easily take on all forms of Diablos, even tempered black Diablos, with a gunlance.

and it's uh, expensive and time consuming.
I'm not certain, honestly, but I killed Nerg on my first try when I got the quest. You just have to play careful and smart and know his animations, and know when to superman dive when he does that instant-kill jump.
It also helps to have multiple people imho - and try and throw stuff at him whenever he tries to run to the next area to delay him going to his nest since that place is extremely cancer to fight him in.
If you manage to do earplugs 5 you can support people whole not giving a fuck.
I've found as long as I have guard level 2, I can take any attack that Nergigante throws at me with my gunlance shield.
Even his bullshit onehit KO move.
Arena quests are so mind numbing. They're not even hard, just tedious.
I actually like them, but then again I always do it together with a friend. I can see them being awful if you try it solo or with randoms though.

I love it when I get grouped with someone that's clearly been using flashpods to carry them through the game and they try to pull that nonsense with elder dragons and tempered monsters that become immune to them so we get wrecked when we'd have needed a stun the most
Or when they interrupt mounts because they're so impatient that they'd rather be dealing with a monster attacking blindly than wait an extra 10 seconds for a significantly longer knockdown.

So what's your least favorite monster to fight? I absolutely fucking hate Xeno Jivaand Kushala Daora, with the Kushala Daora making my framerate hit rock bottom once he flies up to that one spot in the Elder's Recess and spams 6 permanent tornados. I'm playing through the rest of the game on almost max settings with my FPs fluctuating between 50 and 60, but once that fucker goes up there I'll be constantly dipping to around 15. Even Teostra isn't this bad.
Kushala Daora is by far my most hated monster to fight, everything about its abilities and attacks are seemingly configured to be as annoying as humanly possible to deal with. Its constant roaring, wind pressure from flying around, the tornadoes it dumps all over the map, the insane level of hardness on its torso, wind currents pushing you back if you move in for a melee attack etc. are all just a fucking nightmare. I've hit it with every element it's supposedly weak to, pushed my physical defense to the limits of what's possible with the current armor sets and I still get ravaged by the tempered version. The only seeming counter to its nonsense is a flashpod but those things are only good for 4 shots and then you're fucked for the rest of the hunt.
Just fought Black Diablos and she wasnt shit
I run guard level 2 with my gunlance and I could eat all of her attacks with zero chip damage
that paired with a para weapon + para attack charm turned her into a right wimp
I don't have guard level 2 but even then Black Diablos is not much of a problem at all, he really gets hard countered by that weapon
