A political movement aimed at galvanising grassroots support for leftwing issues has been launched in Berlin promising to be a voice for dissatisfied voters that would take a tougher approach to migration.
Stuff like this is needed, having a tougher approach on migration does not make you a right winger.
I don't know anything about this party obviously but in general it's a good thing. You should be able to speak openly about issues without being discarded as a nazi.
The AfD did a lot to polarize the discussion with their pandering to Great Replacement conspiratards.
I was never for such a volume of immigration either but that's what happens when every other country has populists at the helm whose sole knot to power relies on creating a feindbild of foreigners or just people who don't fit their definition of "citizen". If everyone just shrugs because they don't like doing what they initially agreed to do but still show their palms for handouts, then fuck 'em. You can't solve a continent's worth of migration crisis when only half of the continent actually contributes and the other half runs ads about how the prime minister is personally gonna run over refugees with his 20 ton Hummer.
At this rate I'm torn about whether to finish the job or send everyone home. I feel like people's unwillingness to accept immigrants and the insufficiency of integration programs combined with the extremely slow process has contributed to migrants failing to adapt far more than their unwillingness to integrate. We just don't have the kind of system that can support the successful integration of hundreds of thousands of foreigners, though admittedly I never really thought about how to make it better.
By "tougher approach to immigration" I hope they mean "smarter approach to immigration"
The whole crux of the problem is that people leaving crisis torn areas en masse isn't something you can opt out of because it's inconvenient or because you don't like them.
The only thing you can do is to make best of the situation.
Call me cynical, but announcing you're starting a left-wing movement in today's political climate is like painting a target on your back that says "please come mutate and ultimately discredit my cause, /pol/".
The part that worries me is that if we can't figure out how to handle the refugee wave we've already seen, how are we going to handle the future when enviromental disasters get so bad we start seeing refugee waves from that?
I'd wager most people will elect to do the same thing they currently do regarding the environment in the first place.
Sweep the issue under the rug and pretend it doesn't exist.
