https://youtu.be/UZQGtnEL2xs Man I really miss the old Downtown Disney.
Oh fuck I think I went to this once. I totally loved it, and all those games.
Its funny looking back. I remember some of the VR machines being really, really iffy with their motion detection and looking back they're primitive compared to modern VR headsets you can get in your homes - I'm not even sure if these things do sterogrpahic 3d - but damn, were they sweet. Alongside this, the bumpercars, while cool (fucking love buzz lightyear) had a structural fault where there's this one loop at one side of the ring - if you drive into the ring, your bumper car will get stuck. Honestly I think what disneyquest needs (er, needed) was a refurbishing. You have actually good VR now, combine it with some real gimmicky stuff based off of what films the kids like at the time and wingo. you have a good time. I remember I bought a digital souvanier camera and proceeded to lose it at the place too.
As is pointed out, so much of what was at DisneyQuest can be seen as more primitive versions of modern attractions, the Sum of All Thrills VR rollercoaster, the Toy Story Mania shooting gallery, the virtual RC cars in the new Test Track, and of course modern consumer grade VR headsets. DisneyQuest was clearly an idea with serious potential, it just didn't get the love it needed.
when i was a kid i thought disneyquest was the hypest shit ever. i remember waiting in line for what seemed like forever to get into the pirates of the caribbean ride over and over again. defunctland isn't kidding when he said it was difficult, that shit was insanely hard, at least as a child. i also remember the RC cars in the maze being awesome as a kid. disneyquest was definitely an idea that was way ahead of its time.
