After a few rounds of beta testing, the new version being pushed to everyone touts a more rounded Material 2 aesthetic that both drags Chrome into the modern era and promises some functional improvements. It's ditching the trapezoidal tabs in favor of straightforward designs that make web icons easier to see when there are loads of tabs open. Menus, prompts and addresses are also much simpler, and the toolbar is now on the bottom for iOS users to make it easier to reach. You'll find deeper changes as well. The unified search bar (aka the Omnibox) now shows some answers directly in the address bar, sparing you from opening a new tab just to check the weather or verify some celebrity trivia. Password management has likewise taken a step up with built-in password generation and smarter recognition for when passwords are necessary. Autofill is more accurate, and you can use the new tab page to both create new site shortcuts and customize the background for those just-opened tabs. The refreshed Chrome should be available across all desktop and mobile platforms as of today.
Wow it looks like Firefox's old rounder design.
Really don't like the rounded design, I thought we moved away from the old MacOS and Firefox designs already?
Are we now just on an endless cycle of things getting rounder and then straighter, again?
Yikes, someone's gone ham with the border-radius property.
How much ram does it eat up now?
this is just google's attempt to bandwagon the iphone x notch fad
I tested and a fresh launch of Firefox takes around 268 MB, Chrome takes around 150.
man fuck get rid of those curves. we got rid of curves in the past few years thankfully and moved toward square and geometric design, don't go backwards.
I still have the old "New Tab Page" even though I've updated and all. What gives?
It's 10 years old already what the heck?
if you're having trouble getting the update - if you want it - go to more -> help -> about google chrome. opening that page should fetch the update. worked for me. honestly i like it. if the tab bars were a little shorter it'd be great.
Ugh, mine updated and its ugly in my opinion. Why is there so much wasted space between bookmarks. I actually loose one bookmark due to the new spacing. Could have been worse I suppose but Im not a fan of making everything round.
Did they make any changes to its RAM usage, or does it still eat RAM for breakfast?
Weightloss is hard, not everyone can stick to their diets.
I imagine that the reason they went for curves is because of the new android design being all circle-oriented
This isn't a redesign - it's puberty.
is there an opt out feature lmao
oh shit it's already been 10 years been using this thing for at least 9 years and i still like it
I honestly thought it was longer than 10 years. Weird.
I actually like it. For the first few seconds after Chrome updated and relaunched, I wasn't exactly impressed but now I prefer it. Guess I'm a sucker for those curves.
or just use Vivaldi lmao you get to decide how round you want it to be
Good news for those that don't like it: You can disable the top redesign by going to chrome://flags/#top-chrome-md You can also revert the new tab page by going to chrome://flags/#ntp-ui-md
It looks awful with a lot of tabs open, I get visual glitches between the tabs that are wayy too fucking round. Also hate where they put the new tab button.
it looks a LOT better with a dark theme
Ten years huh. Chrome was revolutionary, who remembers the day it came out and they released the webcomic explaining all its features https://www.google.com/googlebooks/chrome/images/small/1.jpg
It's a pretty good design update, they tightened it up nicely and modernised certain components to fit better with their modern material design standards (which are their own so it's not like they're breaking new ground or anything lol but still).
except modern material design components are pretty garbo. The phone application from two weeks ago was fine, but they updated it again and it's 👎
I like it
It’s okay design change and it gonna be expected from megacorp from Alphabet Inc.
