• The Mortewood Plaza mod for Half Life 2 nostalgia

Nine years ago zombie mods for HL2 were the good shit. Apart from shitty maps that were supposed to tie in to the Half Life universe with nothing new added to the game there wasn't anything to satisfy my 13 year old fanboy-ism. The Mortewood Plaza is something which I followed closely, forever hoping for it's release. The last update on it was the announcement of 1187 and the developer Dec Doyle said he will continue development on TMP, but years upon years of no word back I checked the site today to find it had closed and have been archived. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhs96yJWsPY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3S3h5DuiZSE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cvg3z_V7amo
oh yeah I vaguely remember this
You've simultaneously excited and disappointed me in a single post. Never saw this badboy in development.
I remember I was all over this when it was being developed. Few other mods as well, like some Dawn of the Dead conversion for Max Payne which sadly never saw the light of day.
I grew on this maaaaan
I was excited for this, but even back then I knew deep down that this mod was never going to see the light of day. I remember the dev posting new weapon models and ideas all the time but there was never any progress updates on any other aspect of the game.
Yeah if I remember he was trying to be a one-man-mod team and he wanted to do it all himself
i've been trying to remember the mod name so hard hoping to see if its finally released. i kept searching "half life 2 zombie mall mod" and didnt find anything till now. all i remember is him talking about a skateboard as a way of transportation and a weapon and thats about it.
1187 Wasn't that a pseudo 7 Hour War mod that suffered from some severely bad level design and design choices in general?
Also it has an obnoxiously annoying side kick who followed you around.
hah i remember them making mouth sounds to make a walkie talkie static
I remembered it when I replayed 1187 a month or so ago? also wasn't dec an asshole or something.
It's mostly about the last hours of the Portal Storm; Combine forces - unlike their portals - don't make an appearance until the very end. Even then, it's a superportal having Synth aircrafts pour out of it, one Gunship heading straight for the player and his companions (yeah, you also get a soldier tagging alongside you besides the bald civilian dude). Fun fact, if you start shooting at it early, you can kill it and witness the deathsplosions as the screen fades black. It has bad level design to it, yeah. Heck, I never even got the mod to work without some segments completely missing models and textures. Yet despite all of that, I still adore it for doing what I've yet to find other mods doing; depicting the Half-Life universe during the Portal Storms. And I can appreciate trying some new things, like a brawnier Zombie (very much a remodelled Zombine sans grenade attack) and a 'burster' zombie that has tons of baby headcrabs clinging to it that drop off as it dies. Though Vortigaunts are kind of an oddball in the mod; despite Nihilanth being dead by this time, meaning they're not being puppeteered by anyone against their will, the green guys very merrily attack the player throughout the mission. What's more, there's also a wholly unexplained variant of Vorts that appear at the end (to summarize the end, it's defense against mercenaries->companions arrive, defense against weird Vorts->Combine aircraft pour out of a portal and one gunship charges at the three). Picture below: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/960845218565872409/2318BB6F442C287242279BD0C180496231F0986E/ I don't recall ever getting an explanation for these guys, and the model name just implies they're 'enhanced'.
He was a bit too confrontational on moddb but he was still kinda young.
I always thought they were combine controlled vorts, that were set ahead like scouts. Hence why it just doesn't attack you the moment it teleports
