Emirates flight quarantined in New York after dozens onboard report illnesses

As many as 100 passengers and crew reported feeling ill on Wednesday during an Emirates flight from Dubai to New York, and health workers were evaluating them as the airplane sat on the tarmac of JFK International Airport, authorities said.
About 100 people complained of feeling sick on Emirates Flight 203, which landed with at least 521 passengers shortly after 9 a.m. EDT at John F. Kennedy International Airport, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a statement. Their symptoms included cough and fever.
Earlier, Dubai-based Emirates said in a statement that 10 passengers “were taken ill” on the flight from the Middle Eastern country and were transported to a hospital. It did not specify the symptoms or nature of the complaints.

A government source briefed on situation said there was no evidence of a security or terror issue. Emirates‘ home office told U.S. officials it believes this incident was caused by food poisoning.
The flight did not go to a terminal but was directed to a hard stand area as emergency medical response teams investigated the cause of the illness.
“Passengers who are not ill will be allowed to continue with their travel plans, and if necessary will be followed up with by health officials,” said the CDC in a statement.

I was just gonna make an Airplane fish joke, but I gotta agree with Maverick: as inconvenient or frustrating as it may be to them, I really don't think even the seemingly healthy passengers should leave quarantine until we know for sure what this is and they have a clean bill of health. If it's a virus or something, they could still be carriers and just not be showing any symptoms.

Why are those without symptoms being allowed to leave if they have literally no idea what caused it?
They didn't say they had no idea what caused it, rather that the information was not released.
If they chose to let them go then its likely been caused by something non-biological like exhaust fumes getting inside the cabin (I've experienced that firsthand and boy its not fun)

Even if it is food poisoning, a mysterious illness should keep all people quarantined until you're absolutely sure it's food poisoning.
I don't even let my newly bought fish in with my known healthy fish for at least a month. The CDC should be quarantining these people not letting them go to potentially spread whatever it is.
