Although a different region, we JUST had the disastrous typhoon, now this. Is a sad year for weather in Japan.
The summer season has been really bad in Japan. Earthquakes, heatwaves, the typhoon and floodings...
Christ, Japan cannot catch a break.
South gets flooded/blown away the north got to deal with earthquakes.
Yoshihide Suga was on air saying that the nuclear power plant is not at risk at anything critical, which is a big relief
As always: M 6.6
With all the natural disasters this year and now this, I had a thought: 'is climate change linked to earthquakes somehow?'. Turned these articles up on the topic:
https://www.carbonbrief.org/can-climate-change-cause-earthquakes-we-look-at-the-science-and-the-spin
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/oct/16/climate-change-triggers-earthquakes-tsunamis-volcanoes
Yes, and that is how it should be. There are bigger problems to worry about right now though, basically the entire power grid in Hokkaido is offline because they are doing emergency maintenance and also apparently having trouble synchronizing all of the power plants, but the different power plants are gradually resuming operation now.
It was mentioned that some areas may be out of power for up to a week.
But not only this, water's being rationed out and some supplies appear to be running short today
It can be hard to believe sometimes. but the earth has always been trying to kill us.
After what we've done to it, it wouldn't be surprising.
We're doing it to ourselves, really.
I'm not sure why this was the incident to make you wonder that when Japan has been getting hit by earthquakes as far back as records exist. It just has never been a place humans were meant to live in, and that's a quote from my boyfriend who does live in Japan. Earthquakes, eruptions, tsunamis, typhoons; Japan has it rough and it's amazing how they adapt and survive
Must I have a particular reason? It's just a random thought that popped into my head.
Yes, we have had disasters like those plenty of times, but it has been particularly bad this year. Is that not good enough of a reason?
As much as I'm all for climate change awareness, the earth has already has a couple of "resets" that just happened because they happened. When it comes to tectonic activity, it's far more likely the earth just did it's own thing rather than that we caused it. We live on a cooling blob of molten rock, things are not in our control. We are really just lucky that we live in a quiet region of the galaxy, other planets have a much harder time.
