I was building a base the other day on a build server, i had an armoured roof, window, 2 walls, and a total of 4 armoured doors (2 single 2 double door). The upkeep for just that (cause that's literally what i had build, including 4foundations that were stone) totalled to 19HQM. I then expanded further from that base by adding about 5 stone foundations and i check upkeep once more to find that the HQM has gone up too 21-23. I find this too be completely stupid. I am a solo player and its quite hard to come up with a base that can defend against an offline raid, without losing every single thing in the base.
I really hope this is a bug or something, otherwise its a very stupid thing to have on the upkeep system, which already is a pain to deal with.

If you thinking of building with hqm the best way is to not use doors at all a 1x1 foundation INSIDE your side built of complete hqm walls,roof,foundation would be 15-20 a day.you would have ur tc a large box and a sleeping bed in there. and on the walls drop boxs.
you need to recycle alot more stuff if you plan to upkeep a hqm base on the daily
