https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/06/upshot/midterms-2018-polls-live.html Over the next two months, The New York Times will talk to more voters than ever before. It starts tonight, when we’ll publish the first New York Times Upshot/Siena College polls of the most competitive battlegrounds in the fight for Congress. But there’s a twist. None of these polls are finished. One hasn’t even begun. We’re doing it live. For the first time, we’ll publish our poll results and display them in real time, from start to finish, respondent by respondent. No media organization has ever tried something like this, and we hope to set a new standard of transparency. You’ll see the poll results at the same time we do. You’ll see our exact assumptions about who will turn out, where we’re calling and whether someone is picking up. You’ll see what the results might have been had we made different choices. Crazy idea. They truly are a lodestar for transparency First polls will be going live tonight, one of them is in Dana "you're gonna hear me rohr" Rohrabacher's seat
Smurfy was Mike Pence all along! What a Shyamalanian twist! NYT are quickly becoming my favourite newspaper. Britain's press has gone to shit over the past 30 years. I used to like The Guardian, but now they just post really dumb stuff to often and it makes me less likely to go there. Only good news organisations left here are the BBC and Private Eye. I'm definitely looking forward to see the results of the polls. Does anybody know how many House seats are being voted on and how many are competitive, roughly?
The whole body goes up for reelection every two years, it was meant to be the more populist house. 538 lists 18 seats as tossups with 32 more as only leaning Dem or GOP.
The transparency of live info sounds good on paper, but I have to admit I'm worried that it would just give real-time info of areas to screw with to the wrong people. I can see the far/alt-right crowds watching this data like hawks and using it to coordinate impromptu intimidation efforts on important areas they're losing by quickly mobilizing local members. If a bunch of /pol/ losers who were obsessed enough to pore over flight patterns and weather data were able to consistently pinpoint the location of Shia LeBouf's banner wherever he moved it, just to "epix troolz" him by sticking a MAGA hat on top of it or stealing it (plus their constant searching for and raiding of political polling sites in the lead-up to the 2016 election), then I worry what a more organized and purposeful group could do with data like this.
There is no doubt that the FBI is monitoring 4chan, 8chan, voat, conservative reddit, and so on like a hawk in a rabbit hutch at this time. If they actually try to go out and commit some voter disruption, there will be consequences. Maybe they'll even shut down 4chan, and I can finally be free!
