Audio is slightly morphed but the fucking idea is basically precognition of today.
The republican party (distinct from conservatives) is, i believe, more actively destructive of america than any terrorist group.
You know Obama graduated from Harvard law school magna cum laude and was a constitutional law professor, I think he could be a federal judge, maybe even justice if he really wanted to.
God damn what a speech that was.
And yet Trump is a failing business mogul who’s gone bankrupt at least 4 times, has ties to organized crime, lies every time he speaks, wishes he could fuck his daughter, and can’t even pronounce “anonymous” without stuttering like a stroke victim.
It's so refreshing to hear an actual speech come out of america, and not some Alzhiemer's infused drivel.
God Bless the Unyted Shayes.
God I hope we can make this right in November, we have to. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about our votes not mattering since there's the fear of elections getting rigged by hackers and shit.
Remember the time when the president of the United States thought ahead of time about what to say?
Good fucking speech. It's about time someone called out the Republican party for their embracing fascism. There's nothing 'conservative' about them anymore, and hasn't been since Obama took office. About time someone called them out for their acts of literal treason in pretending Russia didn't meddle with the election despite the mountain of evidence to the contrary, in actively blocking steps to safeguard future elections against Russian interference. How many of them, I wonder, are in Putin's pocket? Certainly Mitch McConnell. Certainly Rohrabacher. Probably Devin Nunes. As for Trump, he couldn't make it any more obvious he belongs to Putin if he started waving around a Russian flag.
This november, make sure you do your part to purge the traitors from your government and take your country back from the criminal GOP.
Just put him back in office. Fuck, dig up McCain and let him run the show for a bit, I'm pretty sure a zombie or even just a corpse would do a better job. Maybe make it a triumvirate between Obama, Zombie McCain, and James Mattis or something. Just throw the dipshit currently in that office the fuck out.
Calling the entire Republican Party ‘treasonous’ ‘fascists’ ‘traitors’ and ‘criminal’, especially when those accusations are merely subjective and your own opinion, is really not a productive thing to do at all.
Just imagine this: Imagine there’s a long-time Republican voter. He might even be a man of actual family values. But he’s become disillusioned of the Trump Administration, because of Trump’s amorality. He might even consider voting Democrat for the first time ever. But why would he be encouraged to, when people who lean towards the Democratic Party are accusing the Republican Party, and in turn his own convictions, of being ‘treasonous’, ‘fascist’, ‘traitorous’ and ‘criminal’? Why would he be encouraged to make the leap, if those on the other side do not afford him even an ounce of respect?
It’s really not hard to see why so many Americans are apathetic to politics. And people saying things like what you say really doesn’t help to make things better.
Let's be real here. The GOP has long since stopped supporting so-called 'family values' and conservative ideology. That was the old guard, and it died with McCain. The current establishment has demonstrated all they care about is holding onto power, filling their pockets, and subverting democracy at every turn. If there's this hypothetical GOP voter I've alienated by my rhetoric, then they're blind fools to begin with.
Your country is in danger of falling to fascism. This is no time to mince words.
If such an insignificant degree of adversity is enough to persuade them to betray their values, then those never really were their values to begin with. And no amount of appeasement would ever truly earn their support. People like that only act in self interest.
I've been waiting for this, pretty much on par with what I thought he would say as well. One of the few people involved in politics I honestly respect and would trust. I don't even respect nor trust any of the politicians elected in my lifetime in my country but Obama is someone I could listen to all day.
Genuinely miss his presidency
That wasn’t really the point I was trying to get across. The point is that Obama has cautioned against the politics of fear, hate and resentment, but what many members here are doing is perpetuating those same kinds of negative politics, by using them against anyone associated with the Republican Party. And so the vicious cycle of hate and the widening division continues.
You’ll see that Obama never once accused the Republican Party of being traitors or criminals, because Obama is not trying to perpetuate negative politics.
The voters aren't the party. Nobody really cares about the voters. When people say the Republican party they mean The Party. The distinct political entity that is the United States Republican Party. The elected officials who comprise this political entity
I'm just gonna be lazy and link my last post on this subject, because anything I write here would just be a reiteration of it
In particular, this bit
I couldn't give one dusty fuck about the average Republican voter. I view the average Republican voter in the same way I view a victim of an abusive relationship
You don't get people out of abusive relationships by giving them a different kind of abuse. You do everything you can to make them realize that they're in an abusive relationship in the first place
I go to this comparison because it is exactly what the Republican party is. They are the party of abuse. The exact same tactics you find in an abusive relationship, you find in the Republican party. The gaslighting, the projection, the lies, the victim blaming, the destruction of self confidence, the reinforcement of helplessness, the insistence that their victim can't survive without them, that they're the only ones who can ever protect them. Their victims would be useless without them. The economy will wither, the frightening brown men will rape and kill everyone and install their wrong religion, the left will take all your money and give it to them. Nobody can save you but The Party
This isn't a conversation about Republican voters. When people do something like call the entire party fascistic, treasonous, criminal turncoats, I feel like it's kind of a no shit they don't mean literally every person who has ever voted Republican. It's frustratingly consistent how no matter how hard anyone tries to stress their vitriol lies primarily with The distinct political entity that is the Republican Party it somehow gets translated into the most bullheadedly literal interpretation of 'every single human who has ever voted Republican is a terrible person'
I think you bloody well know that, but that's a much more difficult conversation to have. Why do that when you can flip the conversation around and attack the character of someone with legitimate objections by framing their anger at the party as hatred for their fellow Americans? Gosh, what a despicable person
There is, I think, some considerable food for thought in the previously linked post. There are a number of legitimate concerns to be found within
Do you really think it's unreasonable for people to have these concerns? Is it really that much of a stretch for people to be throwing these accusations at The Party? Can you really just dismiss all of the things that people are concerned with and honestly believe this is just about not liking Republican voters?
Not explicitly I guess, but he mentioned the party known for strident anti-communism is now cosying up with the president of russia and former KGB member. Read in between the lines a little
'If people don't agree with me when I'm being an asshole to them, then they'd never agree with me anyways' is a consistently terrible argument to excuse needlessly antagonistic behavior.
I called the GOP themselves traitorous, fascist and criminal. Not the voters. I think Scorpio makes a fantastic point. If hearing politicians you support insulted in such a manner offends you, you're an idiot.
If you care more about your momentary catharsis than what the people you consider idiots do on election day, then you don't really care about convincing people on the fence, and it's dishonest to pretend otherwise.
I wish obama had this sort of fire in his speeches when he was president though.
He did he's an excellent speaker the problem was he didn't know how far the rabbit whole would go with the republicans craziness.
Is this really his official response to the speech?
Listening to Trump actively wipes out my brain cells, so I guess he knows the feeling now
Official Statement from the President of the United States:
What's that? OBONGO is worried I'm tearing this country to shreds? HAHA SNORE wonder if I can arrest him for something
Just look at the response to this very speech. Two terms of Obama's surgically nonpartisan rhetoric did nothing to diffuse tensions, and it hasn't started working any better since he left office.
The right will always find something to get upset over. And if there's nothing there, they'll invent it.
Obama: *Literally anything*
"Wow you are why trump exists! now let me go back to masturbating to the GOP platform!"
I mean it sounded like Obama was protesting the current administration which, if Trump got his way, would be illegal.
I'm both hopeful yet terrified about November. I hope more than anything that there's a mass purge or something, but I'm honestly not sure if enough people will either a) vote or b) realize how much Trump's administration effects the rest of us, both American and worldwide enough to care.
