The Cortlandt St station was destroyed when the towers collapsed, sending thousands of tons of metal rebar crashing through the station's ceiling. Though a temporary PATH station was erected to allow the 1 train to continue running during construction, today marks the first time that the platforms at Cortlandt St have welcomed passengers since that Tuesday morning in 2001.
The new station is officially designated "WTC - Cortlandt St".
2 days short of 17 years. Crazy.
This is what it looked like originally.
