https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/video-shows-16-year-old-gazan-shot-by-israeli-soldiers-while-waving-hands-1.6463970 A 16-year-old Palestinian, identified as Ahmed Masabah Abu Tuyur, died Saturday morning after he was injured on Friday from live Israeli fire at a demonstration in the area of Rafah, Gaza's health ministry said.  A video published on social media shows Abu Tuyur hurling a rock towards Israeli soldiers from a great distance and waving at them for about ten seconds before he was shot.
This is definitely unfortunate, but what did you expect? You threw rocks at armed opposition and then taunted them further. Given the tensions, was it really that unexpected?
There where a thousand things they could have, and had the power to do before choosing to destroy this person.
I suppose you are right, I'm not surprised at all by Israeli soldiers shooting a 16 year old boy for throwing one single rock and waving his arms for ten seconds. I'm not surprised at all.
I completely agree. It was nothing short of murder. But again, the kid was trying to get a rise out of armed opposition soldiers. Surely this consequence crossed his mind when he decided to taunt and throw rocks at them. It reminds me of the "What are you going to do, stab me?" meme.
I'm also quite sure he planned to get a rise from these troops. But the outcome he probably expected was to be arrested for harassment or assault at worse. That would have been the correct way to handle this.
I can imagine the outrage that would follow if an american police officer shot a kid in the same circumstance. But because its israel its supposed to be justified?
Who would win, one of the most advanced and trained armies in the world? Or one rocky boi. Apparantly IDF chose the latter and took their course of action.
Maybe the assholes should stop pushing young people to take part in these riots? It's always some 'young' Palestinians dying.
He was shot when he was no longer a threat, the army is investigating and hopefully the soldier will be brought to justice.
Im sure desperation and resistance is not a factor when the IDF is constantly pushing the Palestinian people's shit in.
shouldnt have killed him but he shouldnt have been throwing rocks
Something something big no no something something
Why am I not surprised that you can defend this.
they shouldn't have done this but he shouldn't have thrown rocks is defending them? How? Should I say that the 16 year old was right in throwing rocks at the IDF?
Maybe the young people aren't okay with living as lower beings who can have their homes destroyed at literally any moment because, according to most of the world, they essentially don't exist.
Good god stop defending the straight up war crime that this is
and that's why i said they shouldn't have done this you are reading what you want to read, im straight up saying that the soldier was wrong
Saying the kid shouldn’t throw rocks when he’s defacto not a threat is defending them as far as any rational argument goes
So saying dont throw rocks because it conveys a hostile political message is the same thing as saying shoot the kid?
Watch as there are absolutely zero ramifications from this. The irony is so rich, so rich
A truly moderate and balanced approach to the conflict, from someone living through it.
I'm not defending anything, but I'll be the strawman. I said it was murder, and in this case, certainly a war crime. Will Israel see it that way? I really doubt it. This is one of the ugliest conflicts in the world right now. People should be protesting and being active for what they believe in. But when you throw a rock at a guy with a loaded weapon, getting shot at is a possibility you should be aware of. It's not at all justified or deserved, or whatever you may think I am implying. My point was that it isn't like this was a shocking outcome.
"what are you going to do, stab me?" *gets sliced by a billion knives* more like that, so in other words, inhumanly unnecessary.
I feel like a lot of this happens because of the crappy conscription system they have there. It might work in a war scenario but you have a bunch of people who don't want to be there and freak out at the first sign of trouble.
Not that what happened was right, but your example isn't analogous to this event. They are a foreign hostile faction rushing, and demonstrating by, border checkpoints manned by conscripts.
I fucking doubt the young people really give a rats ass about it. It's the people in charge who feed them all this hatred and push them to do stupid shit to get the media all riled up. It's a tragedy for sure but don't go throwing rocks at anything in a warzone.
I mean it seems like the difference between a warzone and their home is very blurry.
Yeah dude, 16 year olds are totally not at all known for fighting the system. Are you fucking serious?
Then he was old enough to know the risk too.
