It's basically Yakuza but with you playing as a detective instead.
who the fuck decided voice narration over subtitles for this trailer needs to be dragged out behind the tool shed and get shot.
Recent release of localized Fist of the North Star and Kiwami 2, Shin Ryu Ga Gotoku, HD re-releases of Yakuza 3, 4, and 5, PC releases of 0, Kiwami and potentially said HD re-releases and 6, and now this!
Team RGG is on a roll
yakuza team seem crazy busy. kiwami 2, Hnk and now this? how big are they as a developer? either way it's a crazy output only rivaled by platinum
Also holy shit the detective's gameplay is acrobatic wrestling that's awesome
One of my favorite things in Yakuza 4 was playing as Masayoshi Tanimura, the police officer and his unique grappling/counter-focused moves, this looks like a successor of that on steroids
They just reuse assets like crazy. Kiwami 2 just took Kiryu's 6 model and removed some wrinkles and called it a day and still have Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown posters in the arcades despite it being set in 2006.
Yeah. There's been 12-15 key team members in the development team for all their games so far including Binary Domain, they employ a lot of asset recycling but it's nonetheless impressively efficiently and smartly used throughout their games (6 suffered from being in a brand new engine where they had to trim off a lot of the other stuff they built up from the games starting from 3 to 0 adapting to a fresh new toolset, especially since they didn't go with their usually routine of developing a spinoff title first to test the waters on a generational leap like Ishin/Kenzan)
The games are SEGA's cash cow domestically in Japan, given only a relatively small budget for large market sales every year, and the surprise surge of western popularity gave it more room for faster and better localization. A bigger budget is most likely a given too but overall the developers definitely are the masters of reusing assets in a smart way
Kiwami 2 is probably the worst example too since you can easily see where the assets got reused since they only had one game to reuse from. 4 - 0 does asset reuse really well and you won't notice it unless you search for it.
story trailer without the narration and with proper subs

Hey its that giant cone
Really hoping sega will be porting more to pc. 0 ran perfectly for me bar some bugs.
sign me up for this, I'm left with nothing but good impressions after playing yak0
the demon kid of the racing car club will forever haunt my being
Played the demo. It's basically Yakuza but with detective work thrown in, which I think is great because 1. I can't get enough of Yakuza, and 2. Detective work? In MY Yakuza?! Sign me up!
I wonder if there's gonna be more fighting styles. The demo + gameplay trailer only showed the two that the MC uses, but I actually wouldn't mind if it was just those two styles and there's a lot more depth to them than meets the eye or something like that. But if down on d-pad is used for switching styles then I wonder what the other d-pad buttons are used for. Items perhaps? I really can't wait to learn more about this game. RGG Studio is hitting the big money.
I heard they were gonna work some Shenmue into this, and I just recently fell in love with Yakuza so. I'm pumped as shit
so basically this is sleeping dogs 2
i thought the same thing.
