🤔 do asians have to give up rice now
shittiest grain get BTFO barley for life
Probably still doesn't come close to the total emissions from animal farming.
"Currently, the amount of unaccounted-for N2O global emissions from rice may be as high as the annual climate pollution from about 200 coal power plants, according to the authors."
Don't know how much this is on a global scale, really?
I'm fairly certain the amount from agriculture is small enough that comparatively, it's almost insignificant compared to other causes of greenhouse gases.
Not to mention, people need food, and rice is a very effective crop in asia because of the climate there. I don't think you'd gain much by replacing rice fields with 2x as many of other crop varieties.
rice's GHG production is second only to animals when speaking of agriculture-based GHGs
Huh, I thought plants were supposed to absorb those gasses, not make more.
Tofu production contributes heavily to the deforestation of the Amazon and Palm products are responsible for the looming extinction of the Orangutan. People are easily misled by "organic" "Gmo free" bullshit that serves to keep them complacent because the shiny wrapper on the product says it's good for the environment.
You'll have to pry my rice from my cold, dead hands
I forgot about deforestation.
Agricultural run-off from fertilizers and pesticides is also one of the largest contributers to water pollution around the world.
What is even ethical to eat anymore?
It's time to photosynthesize.
Soylent Green.
existence is unethical at present
Since when are palm products are marketed as "organic"? They're basically the opposite, it's the kind of shit you find in nearly every industrial food items, in the same vein as corn syrup.
It has nothing to do with being "organic" or not. Anything that contributes to deforestation worsens climate change, whether it's tofu, palm products or the fucktons of soy that are grown for animal consumption.
Go look at literally just about every jar of "natural" peanut butter at a supermarket and you tell me. It has everything to do with being "organic" because people have been tricked into believing that shit that says "natural", "organic" or "free range" suddenly means it's perfect environmentally neutral or better. And it's usually not even close.
Yeah no peanut butter isn't a thing here, you got a better example?
I don't recall coming across any organic product containing palm oil or any such shit. In fact it has a pretty bad reputation here because how shitty it is for the environment has made the rounds in the media already.
Yeah no peanut butter isn't a thing here, you got a better example?
france sucks
Well last time I accidentally ate peanut butter it almost killed me, so I personally don't care too much.
And I mean, we have actual bread so I'm not that worse off either.
Ah see I didn't know you were in France, you know, a country with a proper amount of government regulation on foods and such. Take a trip to the UK and you'll get about as close as you can to the shit you can see here in the US. Even then though, palm oil being absolute trash was making rounds before I moved to the US too so idk how much has changed.
