Thats horrible. Hopefully it didnt spread out of the thumb.
One time, the anxiety-ridden teen gnawed off a whole thumbnail.
Holy shit, ripping off fingernails is a form of torture, how did she withstand the pain?
That is not the headline I want to read as I sit here biting my nails.
That's some next level shit. I've always bitten my nails and used to bite the skin around them as a kid, but removing a finger nail would require a shitload of force and must be super painful. Wow.
Holy fuck dude same.
I'd take a picture of my nails but uhh nsfw.
Haha just curious
I used to chew my nails a lot for similar stress related reasons, it was difficult to stop.
I used too but after I saw a friend from years ago show me his fingers I stopped. He had chewed every single fingernail half way off and had done so for years. Plus it's bad for your cuticles.

*uncomfortable noises*
Yeah I've chewed off about half my thumbnails before. The nails on my thumbs are kinda disfigured (they look like a topography map with a bunch of notches in them.)
Still bite my nails. Tried bitterants and other means of stopping, none worked; I have a very high tolerance for bitter tastes and other mouth irritants.

Chronic nail biter here, the more you chew your finger nails the less you experience pain from doing so, and it's entirely possible to to remove large parts of your finger nail without experiencing any pain if you've done it for long enough. I wanted to say she must have done it gradually until I read the article, now it just sounds like she accidentally yanked it off. It must not have been painful until it was practically already off.
In other news holy shit I need to stop chewing my fingernails. I managed to stop chewing my right index finger because I need it to play banjo and I learned to play guitar with it as well, but since I don't really need the other fingernails it's really hard. I almost don't have fingernails on a few fingers, but I've never severely injured my nails before, which is what the article says causes this form of cancer, so I would assume one could also get it from losing a fingernail to something like hitting your finger with a hammer or whatever. Still though, ugh.
Reminds me of that morbid ass German fairy tale from Struwwelpeter about a boy who got his thumbs sliced off because he kept sucking on them.
Whelp time to stop doing THAT
I remember chewing the top layer of skin off my thumb back in primary school lol now I look back and shudder, especially after reading the article...
I had a habit of biting nails all my life.
Few months ago I went off and bought a nail polish containing Denatonium.
Applied it and then while at work - forgot all about it, went to bite my nails - It felt like I just drank a full tank of petrol, took me a good few weeks to stop biting nails but it worked perfectly.
Those wanting to stop - try it out, most pharmacies sell them.
I am suddenly very aware that I have fingers
I play piano, so finger nails are actually a hindrance. If they're slightly too long, I can end up making tapping noises.

And here I thought I was bad for picking at my nails. Y'all need bitter apple.
I cut mine as short as i can get them without hurting myself in pursuit of tone playing bass. sometimes i go a little to far and that finger will hurt for like 4 days
