What was your favorite Car Combat games? I loved Twisted Metal Black and Vigilante 8 2nd offense the most. Also anyone else remember Rogue Trip?
Vigilante 8 2nd Offence was my jam, along with Cel Damage.
I adore the vehicular combat genre and it's such a tragedy that it's all but forgotten in the modern age.
RoadKill was 👌
Interstate 76 was good shit
The fact that so many people can think up their favorite in the genre and have many of them be different games shows how big the genre became. I feel like the genre could still be popular today if the right games came out.
While I did play a Twisted Metal game (not sure which) at a friend's house a few times, the only game in this genre that I actually owned was Streets of Sim City. It was a broken, unfinished
mess, but the fact that you could drive around any Sim City 2000 map (just like the more famous SimCopter) kept me entertained for a while.
Rogue Trip was one of my all-time favourite ps1 games; it was basically the gameplay of Twisted Metal, meets complete cheese. Loved it
The genre needs one good game to have a revival.
Personally I think Psyonix should make a multiplayer car combat game. They'd be perfect for it.
While i never played Interstate 76, its soundtrack was on point:

if only twisted metal wasnt ps exclusive
that car game where you play as a cop jumping from car to car on the psp was the shit
I still think the Twisted Metal reboot for the PS3 was great, but nothing will beat the joy of knocking a podracer out of the race in Star Wars: Racer Revenge.
I swear this game was the number 1 reason why I tend to lend to small aggressive driving while practicing.

Still surprised we haven't seen a new Twisted Metal on the PS4. We're about ready for the PS5.
The PS4 ended on a bit off a cliffhanger didn't it?
I76 is the best, it's available on GoG, but it's unfortunately an absolute nightmare to get it working properly on a modern system
I had success using dgVoodoo or some other glide wrapper as well as some microsoft compatibility toolkit to get it running on Win7, but in the Nitro expansion, engine sounds were global so I never bothered trying to play through it
Twisted metal: battle royale when?
I was just looking into that idea and found this

So far my only complaint is the aesthetic looks far more PUBG than Metal.
The fact that he didn't even mention it, nor the fact that TM2 came out on PC is disappointing to say the least.
Also, wouldn't technically World of Tanks and War Thunder Ground Forces could be considered Vehicular Combat Games?
Twisted Metal and Vigilante 8 were some of my favorite games back then, they were good fucking games. Funny thing is I actually had a tune that would pop into my head every now and then, and I would often hum it without realizing where it was from. Eventually I found it was the Rooftops soundtrack from the original Twisted Metal, I didn't realize a piece of music could be etched into my brain for so long. Especially the part at 1:58 where it's all dramatic, that's the part I would find myself humming randomly over the the years. That level, and the New York level from Twisted Metal 2, are the reason I really love rooftop settings.

Probably but they feel very different trying to be realistic while most arena shooters were explicitly not realistic and fast.
Nah, those are vehicle sims/"sims"; same deal with Mechwarrior and the likes.
there's Gas Guzzlers Extreme if you guys are interested
Hotwheels Velocity X was pretty good, especially with the the weapons, loop-de-loops, wallriding, and instagibbing by playing chicken with the schoolbus. Decent exploration challenges too.
Carmadeggon Reincarnation looks similar but with slower, more realistic physics? I just want a Rocket League spinoff with weapons, that game has great physics that remind me of Velocity X's, but I can't get into the soccer aspect at all.
Gus Guzzlers Extreme is p fun, though it has a bit of a problem with rubberbanding AI. A pretty recent release is Onrush by the devs of Motorstorm and Driveclub so the quality's there, and it has a really neat gimmick with the whole stampede system, but a)still no PC release and b) seems to get stale kinda fast.
My personal favourite is a fairly obscure game called Mini Car Racing, still holds up tbh.
that ghetto as fuck car racing/shooting game was pretty cool
passenger of car was some guy sticking out of the window blasting AKs and shit at other cars. In coop the passenger was controlled by the other player.
While it's not really a car combat arena title, GRIP is really really good and worth checking out.
There were a lot of racing games that added Car Combat elements but I felt like it was a lot harder to work with compared to using a survival style map.
I was thinking about that actually, the old car combat games are basically just Battle Royale with cars, but muuuch faster pace. Go find guns and powerups, then go eliminate opponents. Bring it back!
However, each vehicle was usually unique and features a special weapon that was equally unique to the vehicle. A school bus would obviously do more damage in head-on collision than a bike.
