I love how this has the potential to let Injured people ride bikes again.
With no arms you could steer it with your hips only
Police already use BMW 1200GS's primarily here in SoCal (with the exception of some of the poor bastards at CHP stuck on Harley's), I could see this being a major benefit for Officers who have to bail from their bikes, or leave them behind on a foot pursuit. As a motorcyclist, the thought of a bike that can park itself is pretty fucking wild.
dont like to be that guy, but im not sure if it counts as the first, with was experimented with DARPA back in 2005, and I think there were other attempts on it since then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CYGT97i8qU goes to show the progress we made through these years though
My hips are moving on their own!

Can't fool me invisible man
Secret Area Germany? Weird, I know this location as BMW Messgelände Aschheim, West of Munich, east of Ismaning, exiting the B471 at the Speichersee.
sounds cool until you realise it needs absolutely perfect road conditions because an oil slick or a bit of debris on the road can wipe a bike out.
So just like a regular motorcycle then.
Can someone play the deus ex song over this
Honda has been working on a version of this that is essentially just auto-balance for motorcycles, which sounds pretty cool and way more practical imo. https://youtu.be/VH60-R8MOKo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qGX3rn3s0I&t=57s if i could buy a grom with auto-balance/ride assist and abs i would use it for commuting all day every day. that sounds dope
If you can't ride a grom without balance assist you probably shouldn't be on a motorcycle.
im capable of riding without it, i pretty much daily a ninja 250. it just seems like a useful feature to have. i have to do a lot of low-speed maneuvering on campus and its a pain in the ass. it's just a nice peace of mind feature i wish i had (like abs)
Was gonna say that this isn't exactly a new thing but it's already been mentioned. Autonomous two wheelers are pretty impressive but when you think about it, its just down to calculating balance and adjusting for it. Modern gyroscopes and even those from 20~ years ago are really, really good at doing just that. Wonder what BMW has planned for this though, its pretty specialised.
I wanna see this be used to "call in" a motorcycle whenever I want. Put them in small containers around a city and rent one for like a day. Then when you're done it drives itself back.
