Just 44 percent said the US was a "trusted ally" under President Donald Trump -- a 33 point plunge since the same survey was done in May 2014, when Barack Obama was in the White House. Only 17 percent said they had a positive opinion of Trump in the Ifop poll, commissioned by the American Jewish Committee advocacy group, France's Foundation for Political Innovation and the Sursaut think-tank collective. Some 54 percent said they had a "very bad opinion" of the Republican leader.
I don't see them as a trusted ally either
Interested in seeing what our French users think.
I'm fairly certain most of the US' allies feel the same right now.
I don't blame them.
Whenever we hear of Trump in the news, it's always because he's being a massive buffoon. Most of our news regarding America is about Trump and how stupid he is. I imagine it's kind of the same thing as everywhere else (except in the US obviously).
If you google the word “idiot” over here and then search images; something like the first 10 rows show pictures of trump or his sons.
Trust me, it's the same here.
Please dont hate us, this guy lost the popular vote by 3 million
We're going through a tough time right now. I just hope that when this is over, they'll take us back and we'll cooperate even more than before so they can squash the isolationist sentiment
Its pretty obvious how our standing has degraded in the last decade and a half In 2003 people followed us into a shitty war based on a our presidents word (which was a lie) And now they won't even back us up on Iran sanctions
But after Trump, how can anyone trust the US that they won't elect someone whose sole goal is to undo everything the previous president did?
I'm pretty sure a lot of US citizens feel the same right now.
Decade? Try past 2 years.
Neither do most Americans right now. God it's gonna take us a long time to fix our reputation when this is all over.
They can't, and until our electoral system receives a massive overhaul, that's not going to change. The hell of it is, the people who would be responsible for drafting and implementing such an overhaul benefit the most from either continuing the status quo, or twisting any overhauls to benefit themselves. Way I see it, we're stuck like this for the foreseeable future. Best the European powers begin moving towards self-reliance.
but we still got outdated voted method Electoral College only used for Presidential elections to help rural folk to 'presented' their vote more than urban votes. Which was sadly reason why he won.
understandable, im sure a majority of people here also dont see this government as a trusted ally, i certainly dont id honestly say that right now would be the best time for other governments to just outright discard US statements considering how our current fuckwit of a president is a complete moron trying to undo just about every alliance or relationship this country has in favor of building one up with russia.
Good, they should
I'm not sure what the average person thinks because i'm so much in contact with so many americans and exposed to a ton of american news and media, so I'm very aware that Trump doesn't represent the average american. I don't know for countryside people who just hear about the crazy shit the US is doing on TV though. But hey 30% of people voted for the french alt right in national elections last year, and that's pretty much equals the Trump base's so tbh both countries have as much idiots, just different flavors, and I've met at least a few french people who like him because they're white supremacist dickheads just like him. Hard to know what everyone thinks outside of my own little bit of the world.
i envy you, you fellas managed to avoid that shitstorm while we're caught up in it.
No they didn't, they staved it off for now.
Still way too close for comfort. The alt right is on the rise here too, but at least the election system isn't absolutely fucked and the candidate with the most votes actually wins.
The Russians have already won.
We can think distrust the US and the Russian governement at the same time, don't worry. Nobody forgot about Ukraine or the shit Russia is currently doing.
Hell, as a citizen I see the current US government in about the same light as the Russian government or the North Korean government: a hostile authority that stands in direct opposition to my interests and well being as a person

With the amount of shit the US has pulled in their past and now, it's a wonder it took them so long to see them like this.
Uhhh anything else you wanna add to this? something/someone more recent perhaps
I believe that America's contribution to the liberation of France in ww2 is criminally downplayed in public discourse around here. People will regurgitate the «russian war effort» meme despite our country having been located on the western front of ww2 The story of the french resistance is well documented and often recounted but some people go the extra mile and will credit De Gaulle with the liberation of France, whole Americans remain the leading cause of death for nazis in combat in this country. Meanwhile there is a one in three chance a frenchman will turn red if you ask him what their grandfather was doing at the time. There's been a cultural disdain for the USA since the days of gulf war for pulling NATO into sticky situations, and it skews everyone's perspective on anytime America did something nice. And, it oozes out of every end of the political spectrum. The fact of the matter remains, that the US is our greatest ally. This is why we have the word «ally», distinct from the word «friend». I would still trust the US with liberating our national territory. As for the USA as a partner, their cultural hegemony can only go so far when we're actively trying to enforce a cultural exception and we're also still lagging behind in english litteracy. Many people who lived before then have resented globalization and blame it on the USA.
