After my Nintendo Switch Online subscription expires, will my Save Data Cloud files and Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online save data be erased?
Save data stored with Save Data Cloud cannot be kept outside of the duration of your Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online
also uses the Save Data Cloud, so the same applies. However, if you keep the Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online save data saved locally on your Nintendo
Switch console, then you can use it again if you purchase another membership.
Theyre really ballsing up this cloud saves thing, first not every game is compatible and now this.
I can understand cloud saves not lasting forever if you unsubscribe, but nuking them immediately after the subscription lapses is nuts
.
Xbox gives you cloud saves for free, PS could saves stay for six months after the subscription runs out apparently. With that and the fact you keep the games with gold,
It's 2018 and Xbox has the most consumer friendly online service.
Steam gives that for free, even for games with quite a bit of data. I get that they'd charge for that, but deleting the data is straight up bullshit.
Even more reason for me to steer the hell away from anything nintendo.
Nintendo still 5 years behind the world when it comes to online I see
Isn't that only 360 games? XB1 games go away.
so what incentive do i have to pay for this service again?
Nintendo also notes that it can’t “guarantee” that cloud save data will be retained after an “extended period of time” from when a membership is ended and local save data backups remain unsupported on the Switch, though it sounds like that could change in the future.
“While we have nothing additional to announce on this topic, please be assured that we listen carefully to the feedback from our customers,” the company writes on a support page. “We are constantly working on ways to further enhance the experience of using the system
Nintendo Switch Online
You mean multiplayer f2p? I refuse to pay money for multiplayer so I will never pay for gold or ps+, and I grew up with Xbox and Nintendo.
That's to say nothing of the fact that you're expected to check in weekly to keep being able to play NES titles:
Can Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online only be played where I have an active internet connection?
Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online can by played for up to seven days without an internet connection. If you are unable to launch Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Switch Online, then please try connecting to the internet again.
Periodic subscription checks for 30 year old games on an emulator.
Japanese companies tend to suck at this stuff
i'll take two
Bonus content: Wireless NES Controllers can only be purchased with an online subscription and there's a limit of one purchase.
Special Offers – Nintendo Switch™ Online – Member exclusives
This has to be an elaborate joke.
Wasn't having to log in every few days to be able to keep playing offline one of the big complaints with the original plans for the Xbox One? It's utterly absurd that they're repeating some of those same mistakes.
Sony seems to have gotten it right, Ive been on and off PS+ constantly and all my saves are still on their cloud.
To be fair the original Xbox Live was also arguably the first proper online gaming service for consoles. And also responsible for the existence of DLC as we know it.
those controllers have no use if you dont have the subscription
I did read this,
new head of nintendo online

tbf that's a good anti-scalping measure, but it's basically taking Club Nintendo and paywalling it.
It's the least stupid part of a very stupid thing.
What's with Nintendo just not managing the concept of an online console? Other consoles have been doing it for years just copy them or something holy shit.
you get to enjoy your $60 purchase of splatoon 2
While the F2P game fortnite does not require it (but it's actually up to developers, since epic runs the entire show, no nintendo servers)
From 4 years ago:
The discussion started off well enough and covered off our experiences with the hardware and (slow) toolchain and then we steered them towards discussing when the online features might be available. We were told that the features, and the OS updates to support them, would be available before the hardware launch, but only just. There were apparently issues with setting up a large networking infrastructure to rival Sony and Microsoft that they hadn't envisaged.
This was surprising to hear, as we would have thought that they had plenty of time to work on these features as it had been announced months before, so we probed a little deeper and asked how certain scenarios might work with the Mii friends and networking, all the time referencing how Xbox Live and PSN achieve the same thing. At some point in this conversation we were informed that it was no good referencing Live and PSN as nobody in their development teams used those systems (!) so could we provide more detailed explanations for them? My only thought after this call was that they were struggling - badly - with the networking side as it was far more complicated than they anticipated. They were trying to play catch-up with the rival systems, but without the years of experience to back it up.
So nothing's changed.
Also interesting, the company's stock is down 2.8% since opening as of this post, and the video going into detail about the new service is sitting at a little over 8,000 dislikes as of this post.
Most game services nowadays offer cloud saves FOR FREE. Nintendo is really screwing this up.
Why is his head so small?
tiny brain for his dumbass decisions
Fuck that shit. And that's coming from someone who bought a whole bunch of (poorly emulated) virtual console titles on the Wii U. Looks like I'm going to sail the high seas from this point on.

…or just buy the NES mini? that’s clearly the better buy in the long run
Why is Nintendo allergic to delivering what customers want? It's not like they stand to gain anything financially by doing this.
The funny thing is that smaller companies than google offer 15gb to even up to 150gb and more of free cloud storage
Cloud saves on this would be maybe less than 1mb each, that is thousands of times smaller than what cloud companies offer for no charge.
