I'm just wondering.
blender It's free and has a lot of the features professional tools have.
oh ok can i coin u
I'll coin him instead don't worry, but to expand on what he said, Blender is the best program to get started, I could spew some technicalities to prove that but those matter little on beginners, it's biggest selling point (eh) is that it's free, making it perfect for those who model as a hobby, and once you've got your hands on it, you can decide to upgrade to other softwares such as 3DSMax, you can pirate those but you will be left with a sense of emptyness and most likely a broken copy. You don't even have to upgrade from Blender, since blender in and on itself is a pretty good modelling software, it's a one man army in the sense that you can do anything with it, including (but not limited to): Modelling, Texturing, Animating, Drawing and Simulations, most although it's not particularly good in some of those, so if you want to get good at them you're better off using other programs (like Substance Painter for texturing). To add on that, blender has many plugins that allow you to model for certain Games, like a .SMD exporter / importer for source games, or, God forbid, an MMD one. Blender also has a vast community, so searching for Blender tutorial or help is relatively easy, a good start is from this lad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYj6e-72RDs And once you've mastered the art of donut making, you can move to his intermediate tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi87Dap_WOc I guarantee you that if you succesfully make it through these 2 tutorials, you will already have become decent at modelling, so all that there will be left to do is watch more tutorials from other people, or start making your own models, these tutorials don't really touch on some things like rigging, but the guy has many more videos to watch.
holy shit you changed my life
Been porting for years and I've always used Blender, never went to any other program other than that.
Just in case you wanted to try 3ds max or maya - you can get it for free from Autodesk for 3 years. I have never used blender but I can see it look really good. Too late for me to learn it. Blender does not do everything - so you should learn blender and at some point start learning Maya. I recommend learning Maya from Romain Chauliac's Gumroad page. Good luck
