The NSW Premier has promised to shut down Defqon.1 after two young people died in suspected overdoses at the Sydney music festival last night. A 23-year-old man from western Sydney and 21-year-old woman from Victoria collapsed at the Defqon.1 festival in Penrith about 9:00pm and later died in Nepean Hospital.  Police say two other people taken to hospital remain critically ill, while another 18 people went to hospital for drug-related issues. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has declared she wants to shut down the event. “I never want to see this event held in Sydney or New South Wales ever again – we will do everything we can to shut this down,” Berejiklian said. “Last night demonstrated tragic consequences.  This is an unsafe event and I’ll be doing everything I can to make sure it never happens again.” The Premier added that pill-testing at music events was "not a solution." "Anyone who advocates pill-testing is giving the green light to drugs. There is no such thing as a safe drug and unfortunately when young people think there is, it has tragic consequences," she said. NSW Premier plans to stop Defqon.1 after suspected overdose deat.. 6000 people die each year in Australia due to alcohol but the rave drugs are more important! Can't ahve pill testing either as that will encourage the drugs. I guess I should stop being surprised by this kind of stupidity from politicians.
Well by that logic let's shut down supermarkets because they sell alcohol. The whole point of pill-testing is harm reduction you miserable ape of a premier. Let's ban doctors because they encourage people to get sick!
"Anyone who advocates pill-testing is giving the green light to drugs. There is no such thing as a safe drug and unfortunately when young people think there is, it has tragic consequences," she said. god shut up
Politicians need to realise that drug taking in festivals is never going to go away and will always be there no matter what insane laws they put through to prevent it. The only true and successful prevention is drug testing, since most of the pingers that get floated around contain rat poison and a bunch of nasty ingredients
No fun police. Pill testing saves lives, trials have shown that, they should just implement it.
another knee jerk reaction by the NSW government. What a surprise...
In the US, we started the War on Drugs to combat drug use, but it has failed miserably. In Australia, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announces the War on Fun to combat drug use!
“Last night demonstrated tragic consequences. This is an unsafe event and I’ll be doing everything I can to make sure it never happens again.” I'd be interested to hear how it could've been made safer? I'm pretty confident Q-dance of all organizations can make an event as safe as possible. + Denying anonymous drug testing is the dumbest shit I've ever heard and honestly if the victims had any intentions to test their drugs then their blood is on the hands of the government as well. Also searching people at entry more thoroughly isn't going to help, because placing drugs next to your dick/pussy allows for safely getting the drugs inside as nobody is going/allowed to touch your privates to check if there are drugs there. Maybe announcing and having drug sniffing dogs would help a bit to scare people off, but I'm not sure of the capabilities of these dogs when there's literally dozens people near them with drugs on them.
"Anyone who advocates pill-testing is giving the green light to drugs. There is no such thing as a safe drug " not perfectly safe, true, but with pill testing it's fucking way safer than it could be. Considerably safer than y'know, that whole "alcohol" stuff which can fuck you up pretty bad
Sounds like she needs to take a chill pill
http://carteretsheriff.com/images/stories/Press_Pics/Pill_Bag.jpg I think it's the red one on the left, not sure though. I'm not trying to promote drug use or anything.
Why is it that party drugs are so often laced with bizarrely horrible shit? You never get that with weed or your standard downers, but you absolutely get it with MDMA. It seems like regular street drugs are cut with baking soda or what have you, but at music festivals you get people leaving around baggies of detergent and shit.
I knew the guy who passed away at Defqon this weekend, and unfortunately none of the news outlets that covered the death spent any time talking about him, all they did was politicize it.
Nah dude it's the blue one, blue is the color of calm.
If you're dealing at a festival you don't have to worry about repeat buyers. You just need a high volume of product to sell off to randoms. And a lot of people just cut with what they have to hand. I knew someone who used to get benzocaine to cut his coke with but most people will just crush up whatever B vitamins and powders they've got kicking around.
