https://globalnews.ca/news/4456581/trans-fats-ban-canada-2018/ The ban will be implemented with a two-year phase-in period. That means food manufactured after Sept. 17, 2018, will need to be PHO free, but food manufactured before that will continue to be on shelves for the next two years. That allows for retailers to “exhaust stock,” a spokesperson for Health Canada told Global News. The ban affects food manufactured in Canada, as well as imported foods.
I generally prefer heavy taxes instead of bans for things like this, but it's still a pretty good move imo.
I wonder what Jordan Peterson has to say about this.
, said absolutely no one of consequence
Considering the man just eats beef all day, I doubt it affects him.
I misunderstood the title and was very confused why would Canada ban fat trans people.
Some things are so unnecessarily unhealthy that there is no reason to not ban them for public safety & health. Plus, afaik, trans fats are not addicting in any manner so people will not miss them as they would with a cigarette ban.
That's hate speech.
Still find it funny trans fats were adopted to replace saturated fats only for us to go back to them.
They may not be addictive physiologically, but just like with many drugs such as MDMA and weed, their's a psychological addiction, although I must note that I think weed should be legal and MDMA should be legal to possess if not legal to sell. I don't know that banning trans fats is a good idea, but I do think they should have a large tax placed on them.
I'm not sure MDMA is a great idea to make legal to sell. It has great medical and psycological benefits but it can be abused for things like date raping and the like. I don't think it should be illegal in any capacity but making it common might not be a great idea. I can imagine it might even have an impact on suicide rates in a negative way with widespread usage. Them Mondays and Tuesdays can be rough.
Alcohol can be used to "date rape", but no one's using that as an argument to ban it
Who's talking about banning it? I'm just saying maybe we shouldn't have it being sold in shops or advertised to people as it will make the substance more widespread. Problems will arise if the general public start popping these things like candy. Illegal users are GENERALLY responsible and look out for each other when using it. Being able to buy it with your pack of cigarettes is gonna cause additional issues. I'm all for medical use and not arresting people in possession but lets not get excited. It's a terrible experience when you take too much of it.
I'm just saying everything you're using to say MDMA shouldn't be available applies just as strongly to a legally available alternative, alcohol. So it doens't hold water is what I'm saying.
That's not how you spell infants, salt and water.
I said 'if not legal to sell', so I meant that it should be legal to possess but NOT legal to sell. So, I'm talking of decriminalisation, not legalisation like I would for weed.
So like, I'm not totally understanding what a trans fat is. Is Margarine transfat?
Trans fats don't produce anything unique like psychoative drugs though. They're literally just a byproduct of hydrogenation that was popular to use instead of saturated fats before they were properly understood. Most of what a ban on trans fats will do, besides increase public health, is cause an increase in the cost and quality of cooking oil.
Can the uk snd usa follow suit now?
The US is already in the process of enacting a ban. The UK however last attempted and killed a proposed ban 6 years ago.
